My specialties are: Childhood trauma/family of origin issues, Codependent behavior, Emotional dysregulation, Grief, Depression, Anxiety, Addiction, Anger Management, Play Therapy for Children, Phase of Life Changes, PTSD and C-PTSD.
Navigating life’s ups and downs can be challenging. Taking a pause and realizing that you aren’t living the life you want is an important step. As a therapist I recognize that moving towards change can be difficult on your own. I respect that it takes courage to reach out for help. Many of my clients seek out therapy to address stress, anxiety, depression, grief, and/or the impacts of trauma. They have come to understand that they are stuck in some way and want movement in a new, healthier, more fulfilling direction.

You've either decided to laugh about it so you don't cry, your friends and family are tired of hearing about what happened or you've bottled it up and never talk about it. I get it, we are all trying to survive and trying our best not to let what happened to us affect us. The Trauma and PTSD has become a part of you in a way that you wonder, "Why am I not over it by now...it happened so long ago"? Maybe it is still affecting your relationships, causing anxiety, stress, self-esteem concerns, and grief. Trauma does not follow a timeline but I'm here to support your healing journey. Let's connect and discuss what happened to you.

I specialize in sexual issues and persistent psychogenic pain. Both of these realms entail working through trauma, anxiety, grief, impulsivity, and depression. In sex therapy, I help clients grappling with issues around functioning, sexual shame, sexual trauma, impulsive behaviors, sex and porn "addictions," low and hyper-arousal issues - all from a sex-positive, kink/poly/bdsm-friendly stance. I also help couples navigate challenges in their intimate relationships. With chronic pain and discomfort, I help people change their relationship to the symptoms, which leads to drastic reduction and often elimination of symptoms.

I have certification in Grief and Mourning and Spiritual counseling.
I grew up in the state of Michigan and moved to California in the 60s. I decided to become a therapist in my 20's and received my B.A. in Psychology. However, I was single, working in the airline industry, and was enjoying the travel and postings in other countries. I lived and worked in Japan for 2 years and in Singapore for 2 years. I finally decided to pursue my lifelong interest and obtained my Masters's degree in Clinical Psychology and my license as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California.

I offer a flexible, emotionally-present, and intellectually curious setting for making lasting changes to attitudes and beliefs which underlie states such as: uncertainty, self-doubt, and anxiety; loss of enthusiasm and purpose; inhibited capacity to love; unproductive and obsessive thinking; and lack of assertiveness.
Good therapy experiences are based on an engaged and profoundly honest conversation that is collaborative, imaginative, thoughtful, and touched with a little grace. We open ourselves to the transforming power of our intuition when we feel truly heard, understood, and encouraged to risk being different. I believe this offers us the opportunity to stretch ourselves and live lives which are more free, creative, and emotionally generous.

I love helping people of all ages who struggle with social skills, who have suffered from trauma/ loss/addiction, or who are affected by people in their lives who struggle with addiction.
Finding a therapist is hard! It doesn't help that there are so many to choose from. I think the most important part is actually liking the person you are talking to. Take a look at my page (and website), and if you think we may be a good fit, I encourage you to call me for a free 15 minute consultation. If we end up working together, I will do my best to find which methods align with you so that I can help you get to the place you want to be.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
