Do you often feel isolated or overwhelmed? Do you constantly feel hurried? Our lives can present us with situations that cause us to question everything we thought we knew. Sometimes painful issues from your past like sexual abuse or other painful childhood experiences resurface. During these times, it can feel hopeless: causing anxiety or depression. Balancing these concerns among our busy lives causes stress and affect relationships with partners and children. Sometimes disagreements about how to parent also adds extra strain. You are not alone.

You wake up each morning unsatisfied. You are aware that you are not living up to your full potential while anxiety, depression, trauma or stress are preventing you from realizing your true nature. Your relationships might feel inauthentic or limited and you are craving a deeper connection to yourself, others and life. You are thirsty for meaning, purpose, joy and peace and have noticed that your own thoughts and emotions are interfering with your experience. You are ready to learn how to forgive and love yourself and others while drinking in this life one moment at a time.

Ease, change, and joy are accessible. I know you can emerge from distress. I have seen radical growth-- again and again. I have found that these positive effects from any therapeutic intervention is highly accelerated by Ketamine treatment. So, instead of treating individuals for years with proven interventions, as is the standard in therapy, I now only use these healing interventions with clients at the Trauma Ketamine Clinic at Restoration Psychiatry, which I find significantly maximizes recovery, and minimizes duration of therapy, I pair Ketamine with Brainspottting, EMDR, and IFS for long-lasting healing.

Challenging situations can be nudges for you to take time and look inside to recognize them as opportunities to heal, grow, and to make changes needed to break free from feeling stuck, lead a more satisfying life, heal relationships, and bring you back to feeling like yourself again. Whether you're having some 'difficult to feel' or painful emotions, childhood trauma, feeling stuck in a relationship, going through a life transition, or just the uncertainty and stress of the world, therapy can be a wonderful place to begin to take time for yourself.

I know that we are living in unique and challenging times. It can sometimes be difficult to navigate the life stressors that come our way, especially when those stressors lead to disruptions in our ability to cope and function the way we wish to. I understand the importance we place on developing and maintaining strong and supportive interpersonal relationships with our families, our children, our partners, and our communities. I also am a strong believer in the need to have a therapist who can listen, support, and offer you real tools to manage stressors and mental health issues.

Experiential Therapy

How does experiential therapy work?

Experiential therapy works by allowing an individual to use their creativity to re-imagine themselves and their lives in an effort to process their emotions. Experiential therapy may take many forms, including engaging clients through art, re-enactments, role-playing, music, or forms of physical recreation. By focusing on these activities, experiential therapists help individuals identify the emotions they associate with previous experiences and work together to cope with negative reactions, like fear, anger, or shame.

Is experiential therapy evidence-based?

Experiential therapy incorporates many therapy modalities, some of which have been more closely researched than others. Music therapy, for example, has been shown to help with sleep problems. Some studies find that art therapy can be beneficial for those with eating disorders or personality disorders, while other research suggests that such approaches have little impact.

How long does experiential therapy last?

The duration of experiential therapy will depend on the type of therapy used as well as the severity of the challenges an individual faces. Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Art therapy may comprise 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or on an as-needed basis. For each therapy type, clients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

Does experiential therapy help with trauma?

Trauma is one area where experiential therapy may be useful. Traumatic experiences such as combat or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating visual art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. Listening to music can be relaxing, while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, or who have been physically or emotionally abused.
