-Training in: Play Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF- CBT); Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) -Certifications completed: Adoptions Counselor Training (ACT); Pathways to Parenting; Sexual Assault Victim Advocate; Domestic Violence Counselor -Theoretical orientations: Family Systems, Client-Centered, Humanistic, Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Attachment-based perspective.
Are you worried about a recent change in your child's emotions/behaviors? Thankfully, there is help specific to your child's developmental needs through a kid-friendly approach, Play Therapy. I help children sort through a variety of issues, from anxiety, sadness, and anger, to behavioral problems at home/school. I work with you, the parent who knows their child best, to help your child heal. If you're an adoptive or foster parent, this can be a confusing or challenging role. It may be difficult to connect with your child. The same parenting rules do not apply to a "non-traditional" family system.

By combining Nutrition/Neurotransmitter balancing with Psychotherapy my approach is a perfect combination for those struggling with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, weight loss, substance abuse and ADD. Supporting brain chemistry while doing therapy makes therapy a solution rather than a band-aid. I use an integrative approach with clients rather than a tunnel-vision approach. If our body and brain are not healthy, our relationships cannot be either.

Navigating mental health can be a daunting journey for many individuals. A significant hurdle encountered when seeking support is the stigma associated with mental health. Personally, I understand the feelings of fear that can hold you back from seeking help. The hopelessness, one can experience is relatable, yet I also recognize the transformative power that seeking therapy can bring. While delving into the complexities of the past may be painful, I provide a safe space where healing can commence. Let's collectively break the stigma surrounding mental health by igniting a spark of hope today. Let's spread hope like fire!

Life does not proceed as we each envision it. It can be unexpected, messy, complicated, disappointing, tragic, and challenging. In countless ways we strive and struggle. We can feel ourselves to be adrift. Yet we are connected, radically interdependent. Even so, we all have our own perspectives on life and our struggles. We are tethered to our environment, our social roles, cultural identities, interpersonal, historical, professional experiences, and so on. Through exploring this web, and the various vantage points that the web offers, a unique therapeutic process emerges for each person.

You've been searching for deeper healing, yet traditional treatment only scratched the surface for you. You find yourself aimlessly floating through life, disconnected from everything around you but always questioning whether there’s something more. Or maybe you appear to have it “all together” on the surface, but deep down you’re struggling to process things from your past. Maybe you’re easily triggered, losing control one minute and struggling to pick up the pieces the next as your relationships try to recover? Or maybe you just don’t feel right, and feel like you’ve tried everything only to feel disappointed... again.

Whenever people come to see me, I am always impressed by their courage. No matter what the problems are, most everyone enters therapy from a confused and vulnerable space. To do so takes courage. In knowing this, I work to honor their vulnerability and courage. I know that by providing a grounded, attentive, and focused presence to those I work with, trust will occur between us, and we can all be more free to address whatever the pain may be. Without this foundation of trust, I will not be able to effectively help at all.

I work with clients on tools and strategies to help with symptom reduction while we uncover what you need for a deeper level of healing. In a safe, non-judgmental space I can help you identify the thoughts, narratives and distorted core beliefs that cause you suffering, keep you repeating the same patterns and block you from a higher quality of life. With gentleness and compassion we can explore the places you may get triggered and the old wounds that continue to cause fear and pain.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
