In both individual and couples work, I usually work with principles of mindfulness and somatic therapy.
The people I work with in therapy often want change in their lives, such as relief from anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, guilt or shame, help navigating difficult situations, LGBT issues, and improved communication between partners/spouses, family members, and friends. I provide the means for my clients to explore issues and the sources of those issues.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples and familes, and I bring warmth, honesty and over 20 years of experience to our time together.
Who stole the road sign to a happy life? Have you tried everything to make things better, but nothing is working? If a good life is eluding you, let's talk. We'll look at what is getting in your way and--as we discover your strengths--map out a plan that works for you. You can expect to feel understood, supported, and gently challenged to make shifts that move you forward. Whether your focus is on strengthening your relationships, navigating difficult life transitions, or "unsticking" yourself from depression, anxiety, or trauma, our work together will empower you and help you to make wise choices.

I welcome individuals and couples who are experiencing challenges in their communication and relationships, grappling with grief, loss, divorce, or significant life transitions. These painful experiences, while difficult, can provide profound opportunities for self-reflection and personal growth. With a background in bereavement therapy in a hospice setting, as well as personal and professional experience with major illness diagnosis, I bring a wealth of experience and insight to my practice. My therapeutic approach draws upon psychodynamic methods, mindfulness techniques, Gottman's research, Brainspotting, and DBT.

My work experiences are within the areas of personal growth, life planning, family conflict, relationship problems, isolation, bereavement and caregiver stress.
I am accepting new clients via teleheath only at this time. Are you looking for more authenticity in your life? Trying to be more mindful when red flags of comparison or anxiety begin to move in? Or do you feel you are not in a great place in terms of your head or heart but know that you do not want to continue down that rabbit hole? Then, the only point of my counseling is to ask, "how can I help you? "

As you read these words, you may be having second thoughts about contacting a therapist. That is understandable. Even as we struggle with personal problems, or work to solve problems with a relationship, it's natural to have questions about reaching out for help. You may wonder whether you will feel comfortable with the person you call, and may be uncertain about how therapy can help.

If you are suffering with anxiety, depression, grief, loss, lack of motivation, or struggling in a relationship, I can work with you to gain insight and learn new skills for a fuller life.
I believe that connection is our greatest human strength and that facilitating an understanding and pattern of safe connection to self and others is the primary work of therapy. I work relationally with my clients to provide a safe, stable, caring space where you can explore your life, your thoughts, your feelings and your needs. This form of exploration can help you move to see yourself with less judgment, more empathy, more self love and a deeper sense of understanding. When we operate from this place within ourselves, we are better able to make choices and decisions that result in less suffering.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
