Hi! I’m Pati, and I’m so glad you're here seeking support. I offer help for families looking to improve their home environments, and support to kids and young adults struggling with relationships, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and obsessive-compulsive disorder ( OCD). My clients often face the burden of intrusive thoughts and compulsions that affect their daily lives. Even if they appear fine on the outside, the persistent anxiety, obsessions, or rituals impact their relationships, school, or work. I use effective evidence-based treatments like ERP, with great success in providing relief and offering hope for an easier future.

I have expertise in the treatment of OCD, panic disorder, PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, specific phobias as well as hoarding, hair-pulling, skin-picking, and tics.
Balance CBT is the name of my private practice. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY27841) and an expert in the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders and related conditions. My primary focus is providing evidence-based or "known to work" treatments for anxiety-related problems. While I place very high value on research-driven treatments, I strongly believe that compassion, validation, and a powerful relationship are cornerstones to effective therapy. I am a member of the clinical faculty at UCLA and hold positions in the departments of psychiatry and psychology.

Together, we can increase empowerment and self-compassion as you break free from the grip of OCD and anxiety and reengage in the things that matter most in your life.
Have you noticed that it's in the places you are supposed to be most relaxed (meditation, vacation, weekends, sleep) that your mind feels louder than ever? It might feel like the idea of letting your thoughts go is meant for “normal” people and that does not include you. Maybe you stand guard to keep yourself from your worst case, as if your attention to your thoughts keeps you from descending into unimaginable fear. All the advice you get from those closest to you feels so out of touch with the agony of daily doubts around the things that matter most. I can help you sift through the noise and regain your confidence in yourself.

I specialize in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder ( OCD), Anxiety, and Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) such as Trichotillomania (hair-pulling) and Dermatillomania (skin-picking).
Navigating mental health concerns and life challenges alone can prove to be isolating, challenging, and intimidating. Some days, we feel so consumed by our thoughts and feelings that it is difficult to just exist. I am deeply committed to creating a therapeutic space where you don't have to be alone with your thoughts and feelings anymore. A space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. I work collaboratively and cohesively with clients to reach their desired goals in a nonjudgemental and supportive environment.

I am extremely passionate about helping people live their best lives and enjoy the process of getting to know my clients. I have a warm, casual, friendly, and conversational style. During sessions I am interactive, connected, and do not take notes. Clients often comment on my ability to remember even small details about their lives (that sometimes they don't even remember!). I work with adolescents (15+), adult individuals, and couples. Most of my clients experience high anxiety, OCD, relationship challenges, fertility struggles, or are in the throes of early parenting.

For those with Anxiety ( OCD, Social, Generalized, Panic Attacks, and Phobias), I use evidence-based practices like ERP, CBT, ACT, and DBT to support the balance of change and acceptance.
My clients are sensitive to the world around them. They feel emotions deeply and have big internal or external reactions. I work with children (ages 3+), teens, and young adults on their journeys to grow, thrive, and create lasting change. I play an active role in sessions by teaching skills, reframing negative thought patterns, building self-esteem, and focusing on each individual's needs to create a life worth living. I support the unique abilities you already have, to overcome challenges, build resilience, and improve emotional understanding and communication, leading to more positive and productive behaviors and outcomes.

Yip is a nationally recognized expert in OCD and anxiety.
If you or your child suffer from OCD or other anxiety disorders, you're not alone. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness, yet most sufferers don't receive proper, evidence-based treatment. OCD/anxiety can cause problems socially, academically, professionally, and create chaos with family members. The good news is that there is help. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has repeatedly shown to be the most effective approach for defeating OCD and anxiety. CBT creates new neuro-pathways by changing the way you think and behave. It's basically exercise for the brain. The more you flex those brain muscles, the stronger you become.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
