For those feeling stuck or wanting to work through trauma, I use EMDR, a collaborative and highly researched treatment, and Brainspotting, a brain-body method, to help free you from negative experiences while allowing you to heal more quickly.
Life can be tough, especially recently, but how you handle challenge shows strength and courage. How are you coping and managing relationships during these times? Maybe you are feeling stuck or hopeless, worried or isolated. Are you or a loved one struggling to deal with these changes? Therapy can help you address these issues and strengthen yourself and your relationships in the process. I believe in human resiliency and welcome you to see how this process can help you work towards more fulfillment, joy, and hope for you, your child, or loved one.

Trauma & stress affect us psychologically and physically, I'm trained (certified) in somatic therapies including: EMDR, Brainspotting, & NARM.
Are you tired of traditional talk therapy? Overwhelmed with feelings of anxiety, or fear and stress? Maybe you feel like you've already done "so much work on yourself" and yet you still engage in some self-defeating patterns. This may show up in dating the same dysfunctional type of person, or acting out childhood patterns at work, overworking to please your boss without being recognized. You may lack patience or sometimes get impatient with your partner/children, the same way your parents were with you. Or maybe you shut down when you need to speak up, since many of us were taught to be "good little girls and boys". I can help.

We will build safety all along the way as we work toward healing using effective and non-rigid tools such as inner child work, Attachment Focused EMDR, and Brainspotting.
Hi, I’m Dr. Ruth Gatt, and I’m your ally in healing relational trauma—any trauma that happened in relationship with another person or group. If you’re trying to create space from a consuming relationship, or to make sense of all the chaos so you can feel like yourself again, I can help. Narcissistic and other turbulent relationships—whether with a person or religious group—can leave you feeling bewildered, shattered, and ashamed, with no clear way to make things better. I hope that my expertise in this area can support you in untangling the knots, finding your footing, and rediscovering your innate worthiness.

In addition to talking and writing, the tools I find most effective are Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, the Havening Technique, EMDR, IFS, and principles from Stoicism, Buddhism, and 12 Step.
We have all been through so much in our lives. Many of life's stresses we can handle, but when anxiety and trauma are present, it is difficult. Events and memories can impact us for years even if we don't know it. If you wonder what is blocking you from accomplishing your goals, whether personal or professional, I have approaches that help. You may have tried to figure it out on your own, read books, gone to workshops, and been in therapy or coaching. I work with people using a focused yet gentle collaborative approach. For 30 years I have helped people get clear and move forward.

I am passionate about helping children, teens and young adults process traumatic experiences, navigate difficult relationships, build self-esteem, and find inner peace. I also know how incredibly life changing it can be. I believe true healing only happens in safe environments, built on real connections, authenticity, honesty, and laughter, which is what I strive to create for each and every client.

I am a Certified in Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), and am trained in the Trauma Resiliency Model and Brainspotting.
I offer a pragmatic approach designed to help clients identify and change behaviors that are preventing them from living the life they want. We all developed coping strategies when we were young to protect ourselves. While they helped us survive at the time, they are often the very things holding us back now.

Using a combination of Brainspotting, EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, somatic therapy and mindfulness, we will work together to ensure a return to the level of functioning that you want.
What do you want? Do you know? If you know, are you able to attain it? Do you struggle with relationships or the ability to make your life as way you want it? Successful living means functioning well in love and work. Irritability, rigidity, anxiety, addiction, lethargy, depression, self-doubt, self-attack: these are all symptoms that sap us of our right to act with the freedom we wish and the ability to engage emotionally with others, our work and ourselves.

Brainspotting Therapists

How does brainspotting work?

Brainspotting works by using eye positioning to identify and process traumatic memories so that a client is better able to move forward and live with less fear. The theory behind brainspotting is that by identifying where a person looks when thinking of traumatic memories, a therapist will be able to guide them to focus on that spot and work with the client to get them out of the “fight, flight, freeze” response associated with the traumatic memory.

Is brainspotting an evidence-based therapy?

Brainspotting is a theory-based alternative therapy. It is one of the newest forms of treatment, so very little research has been completed that examines the mechanism by which it works. The theory behind brainspotting is that eye position can be linked to areas of the brain that store and process memory.

How effective is brainspotting?

Because it is such a new treatment, the effectiveness of brainspotting cannot be quantified. Some people have found it to be effective on its own, or in conjunction with other types of therapy. It is considered an alternative therapy, and it is popular with people for whom more traditional therapies have proven ineffective.

How long does brainspotting take to work?

A typical brainspotting session will last between 60 to 90 minutes. There is no required number of sessions needed to complete brainspotting therapy, but in many cases it is delivered over the course of about six sessions. Clients are encouraged to rate their level of distress prior to a session and again following a session, and to track progress.
