At Santa Cruz Therapy Collective, I enjoy supporting young adults who are exploring their identities and independence. With a relational approach that includes CBT and trauma deactivation, I invite clients to explore past relationships and how they influence current patterns. Our work together supports them to lean into the challenges of life and craft an intentional path forward. I also often work with parents who are struggling with anxiety, isolation, conflict, and loss of self. The parenting experience is not always what people anticipate - instead of joy there is worry, insecurity, and overwhelm.

I think therapy is always a good idea. Crisis, however, is often what leads us into therapy, and I believe that it is a call and an opportunity to look deeply, not only into our "problems" but, into ourselves. My approach is non-pathologizing, relational, and grounded in Jungian theory. I work with a variety of concerns with a special interest in spirituality, identity discovery, developmental and transitional adjustments, grief, loss, depression, chronic and palliative illness. I believe that every person has an innate capacity for healing and I am interested in helping people find theirs.

I work primarily one-on-one with adults. My philosophical approach recognizes the struggles and pains we share as humans. To quote Joseph Campbell, "I don't believe people are looking for the meaning of life as much as they are looking for the experience of being alive." This therapy is potent for people feeling stuck, inhibited by uncertainty or self-doubt, often with nagging low-grade symptoms of depression and anxiety, and/or patterns of procrastination, avoidance, and self-criticism. We look with curiosity at what is important to you - your wants and the obstacles that hinder you.

Most importantly, I strive to meet you where your needs are and develop a plan and specific strategies to help you achieve your goals!

Many people come to therapy with some understanding of how their life experiences have impacted them, but that knowledge has not caused them to feel better. I help clients move beyond their mental understanding of “what happened” into a felt sense of well-being, which results from developing an attuned and caring relationship with themselves. Whether you are dealing with difficult internal emotions and patterns, anxiety, relationship conflict, trauma, grief, or intergenerational dynamics that seem hopeless, it is never too late to develop new ways of being and relating that transform suffering into healing.

Asking for help can be a monumental decision that requires a lot of courage. Finding the right therapist can be an equally difficult task. A therapeutic relationship needs to feel safe and collaborative, as it can serve as a foundation for healing. My goal is to assist you in accessing your internal strengths, exploring obstacles and working to overcome your challenges. Understanding what style or type of therapy you need can feel confusing. I will work with you to create a plan for treatment that is aligned with your needs and personality.

Have you ever wondered, "why did I just do that?" or felt conflicted with different sides of yourself? Have you ever felt completely confused why others seem to live easy lives and you don't? We can work together to understand what's important to you and how you want to live your best life. I offer a safe space for people of all ages (3-103!) to be understood and cared for without judgement or pressure. Sometimes this is working through stress within a family and it's affect on family members. Sometimes this work looks like learning new ways to cope with anxiety or improve how we talk to ourselves.

Therapy is an opportunity to explore and make better sense of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions and how you may be affected by these components in different parts of your life in a safe non-judgmental space. It is a chance to uncover more about yourself, the patterns that you may have, and how your past may impact how you interact with situations, events, and others. Therapy also can be a time to heal and explore new ways of thinking and being. My approach to therapy is collaborative. I’ll encourage active engagement to help uncover your strengths and resiliencies.

For Couples & Relationships: Even the most loving partners sometimes hit snags that seem to undermine all their efforts at repair. Nothing shifts the script like facilitation from a compassionate third party who arrives prepared to listen and help you deeply hear and understand each other’s emotional experiences. For Teens: The transition from child to adult can be terrifying, surprising, magical, amazing and even boring at times. Support from an unrelated grownup can allow adolescents to safely explore aspects of themselves that feel especially confusing, misunderstood, or rejected.

Do you find that you are questioning yourself constantly? Or feeling as if you have no motivation for the things you enjoy? Or struggling in your relationships? Are you feeling lost in this phase of life and trying to figure out what makes you happy? You may be wondering where these feelings are coming from. They may feel like familiar patterns, or these experiences might be new for you. Either way, you know something needs to shift. You want to feel more at ease within yourself and in your relationships. You are ready to quiet the inner critic and be more understanding of where, and who, you are.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
