I am formally trained in EMDR , a form of trauma therapy.
I am experienced in working with couples that may be struggling with connection, communication, betrayal, or simply supporting relationships to adapt and grow through the stages of life. In your relationship, there may be times where you feel that you are fighting too often or feel that nothing will change... but hope is not lost. It's never too late to learn how to create healthy connections with one another. When working with couples or individuals, I have experience working with complex PTSD, faith-transitions, interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, life transitions, self-compassion, and self-empowerment.

My approach combines positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, EMDR and depth psychology to explore the unconscious influences.
Even the strongest people need help to work through some of life's more challenging problems. You may have noticed that you have been experiencing problems sleeping, problems in your relationships or problems functioning at work. Everyone has hurdles to overcome that sometimes include being weighed down by self-doubt, shame, worry, loneliness and only seeing what you did wrong. You may ask yourself “how can I continue like this”, well you don’t have to. It is possible to change and love your life.

These techniques include EMDR, IFS, brain-spotting, flash technique, mind/body work, mindfulness, grounding, tapping and trauma-informed yoga.
Hello and welcome! My name is Jessica Millanponce and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I want to start by saying how honored I am that you took time to learn a little bit about me and my clinical care approach. It is my belief and experience that complex-relational trauma and attachment injuries show up in our lives and are the catalyst for symptoms that resemble anxiety, depression, dissociation, hyperactivity and various mood disorders. My approach to care is and has to be gentle, self-guided and compassionate as we explore the inner parts of Self that need attention, unburdening and healing.

I am a certified EMDR therapist, and also provide traditional talk therapy.
Are you struggling with getting back to normal life after experiencing a distressing or traumatic event(s)? Maybe you’re experiencing intrusive thoughts about what happened, feeling consumed with anxiety, overwhelm, or guilt, and you’re now finding it difficult to carry on with your normal daily tasks. Maybe you’ve experienced a perinatal trauma (e.g., miscarriage, TFMR, stillbirth, or a traumatic birth), and are trying to figure out how you can go on after this. Or perhaps you’re a new mom trying to manage anxiety in the postpartum period. You want to feel calmer, more confident, and you are ready to find lasting peace.

I use EMDR and other trauma modalities.
Too often, we feel we are surviving rather than thriving. Do you feel stuck in grief or loss, or that your anxiety is running the show? Are your relationships painful or not satisfying?Also-Parenting is hard! Maybe you're a new parent and it isn't what you expected, or even hoped for. Nobody tells you about the postpartum experience -that internal voice in your head that is constantly critiquing the new role of motherhood you're taking on, mourning the version of yourself you once were. Not to mention the pain that comes with a birth plan gone wrong. If you're mothering without your own mother, that also comes with real challenges.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
