My approach in working with clients is to create a relationship of safety and trust.
It takes a village...Navigating through the transitions and challenges in our lives is meant to be a collaboration with family, friends, elders, wise women and men. However, in the times of instant change and mobility, some may find themselves lost and alone, far from those they confide in and look up to. Sometimes they isolate for fear of vulnerability and the pressure to appear "to have it together". When this self-judgement and drive to be “perfect” eventally takes its toll, one can be left feeling bereft of deep connection to self and others. Finding a therapist you can trust and confide in, can help you find your way.

Currently Accepting Clients. Challenging relational seasons are inevitable. I feel honored to walk alongside clients as they navigate said seasons. Using a coaching modality and attachment framework, I partner with clients to build increased levels of connection and understanding in their relationships. This may include untangling destructive conflict patterns, navigating challenging conversations, or unlearning unhelpful attachment behaviors. I see my role as facilitating growth and offering a secure base, where the locus of change resides completely in the client's control.

Using a safe and supportive relationship, one can explore and better understand themselves and move toward healing and personal growth.
I help my clients navigate difficulties in their emotions, relationships, and other areas of their lives by gaining a deeper awareness of their patterns, strengths and needs. Many of my clients are seeking help with challenges that can show up as anxiety, self-sabotage, disconnection, and a general sense of feeling lost. Maybe you notice putting your own needs last or a growing distance in your relationship. Struggling alone for too long can lead us to feel hopeless. I help my clients find ways to prioritize their emotional health and boundaries so they can thrive in their authentic selves.

I help individuals and couples understand and transform deeply rooted patterns. Some walk through my door in profound distress, while others seek relief from a persistent sense of unease and dissatisfaction. I listen closely for the ideas and experiences shaping important aspects of your life, such as family, friends, work, sexuality, creativity, and self-worth. And together, we explore the ups and downs of your thoughts and feelings, with a focus on how current experiences and past traumas may be restricting your capacity for growth, self-expression, satisfaction, fulfilling relationships, and meaningful work.

I sit with individuals, couples, and families at Janus Counseling Center, a comfortable and beautiful therapeutic space in Santa Barbara, along with a supportive team of bright and caring clinicians.
It can be very challenging to see things clearly in life. I help individuals re-adjust their way of looking at themselves, their relationships, and the world. Through psycho-dynamic exploration, I come alongside a patient in the discovery of what is possible, as it is my belief that the most crucial part of therapy is the relationship that builds between patient and therapist. It is often easier to shine a light into uncertain areas of one's heart and mind when someone else is holding the light.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
