Perhaps you have lost confidence and hope. Maybe you aren’t sleeping well. You’re reaching for wine or coffee or cookies too often. You don’t feel like yourself and you aren’t sure how that happened. Let’s work together to find out where and when things got difficult. Then we can find hope that things will get better, that you’ll feel better as together we find your strengths and goals.

Where there is life, there is hope! Where there is hope, there is also a future for you. I am ready to be part of your healing journey, let's do this together. Trauma can cause dysregulation in our bodies, minds, and hearts. Many of the clients I see have been impacted by the Department of Social Services & the Department of Corrections. Sessions often focus on past trauma, triggers, attachment issues, and the effects of transracial adoptions. I work with people from all walks of life, from the foster care system to the prison system. I have the innate desire to build empathetic, genuine, therapeutic relationships with my clients.

One of my passions in this field is the healing/ growth/ transformative experience that an individual can have through trauma work. I have continued my clinical work providing therapy services to children and adults who have experienced trauma and/or significant adverse life events. This work is deeply meaningful to me and it has led me to seek advanced training on the treatment of trauma via evidenced based practices as well as emerging and established therapeutic models. I combine my advanced trauma training and the use of solution-focused, mindfulness, and strength-based therapeutic interventions in my clinical approach.

Therapy should be client-focused & should occur in an atmosphere of warmth & safety. My style is caring, creative and non-judgmental. A trusting relationship between client and therapist is essential for successful outcomes in therapy. Through this relationship, clients can explore the emotional challenges that they are facing. With the help of an empathic therapist, one can begin to gain awareness of unconscious emotional patterns, feelings & beliefs. Through the processing of this unconscious material, old wounds can be healed and the client can gain insight that equips them to create a life that is more satisfying and meaningful.

Brene Brown said, “I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard and valued." I believe that we have all had challenges that can feel never-ending, although in fact they are only temporary. As a therapist, my hope is that nobody will have to walk through these struggles alone. My passion and expertise is to guide you through these moments and work together to find healthy, tangible solutions that will lead you back to enjoying your life. I truly feel that therapy should be collaborative, so I will take the time to get to know you and what works for you.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
