Taking the first step towards getting mental health support can be a difficult task. My hope is that together we can openly discuss treatment options. I hope to join you to help with navigating dual cultures, handling situations with your children, navigating being an adolescent, or handling life transitions individually and/or with family therapy. I work with people struggling with anxiety, relational issues, women’s health, Latinx, life transitions, trauma, survivors of crimes, immigration evaluations. I use an adaptive approach to treatment by tailoring interventions to the unique needs of the client.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am Bilingual in English and Spanish. I earned my Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology in 2002. I have worked in various settings for over 25 years, working with Children and Families. I have worked in a crisis house providing crisis interventions to families on an outpatient basis. I have experience working with school counselors and psychologist to help students.

I am Adrian Avila. I hold a License in MFT (#52279) to serve in private practice in California. My education includes a Ph. D. from Loma Linda University and M.A. from University of San Diego, both in Marital and Family Therapy, and a B.A. in Psychology with minor in Bio-Chem from San Diego State University. I have been in the psychology-therapy field for more than 23 years.

Hi! So happy you’re here. Deciding to start therapy is not always an easy thing to do so I am super happy that you have taken the first step. Let’s be real. Life is hard. Life is even harder when we don’t have someone we trust in our corner. Whether it be to process our past, vent about the present, or plan our future, sometimes we just need someone to talk to. Someone who listens, someone who doesn’t interrupt to talk about themselves, or maybe someone who isn’t family. As a first-generation Latinx therapist, I understand these struggles and how difficult it may be to find someone who "just gets it."
