Therapy is a dynamic and improvisational collaborative process. I believe in the boundless generativity of “yes, and” and that being a person is deeply absurd and profoundly sacred in equal measure. My approach is inquisitive and creative. I work from a depth perspective, which means I am attentive to both unconscious forces and conscious patterns that may be creating unnecessary roadblocks to a more fulfilled life.

Sometimes it is difficult to ask for help. Recognizing that you may need support with relationships, or a deeper understanding of yourself is the first step on the road to recovery and the beginning of the healing process. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I offer empathic listening in a safe environment, as well as the support, guidance and feedback that will give you the tools to discover and address the root of the problem in order to create long-term change and personal growth.

Welcome, and congratulations on taking the first step toward creating change. My motto is "Travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light." This can only be accomplished by shedding burdens that weigh you down. I aim to create a compassionate and nurturing environment for personal exploration and healing. I enjoy working with clients who may be apprehensive of mental health services or have had negative experiences with therapy in the past.

"I don't know what to feel!" The past few weeks have left us all with an overwhelming sense of uncertainty and confusion. The isolation and societal anxiety are a recipe for profoundly undermining our health and well-being; not just physically, but mentally as well. Many of our clients at Aspire are trying to find their new normal amidst sweeping changes to their daily lives. Finding a space to clear your head, feel heard, and create a plan for sustaining balance is a small, but vital, step for staying strong and resilient. Let us help with finding a path through the fog and to reclaim life.

I practice a holistic approach as emotions and behaviors are not only related to external environment and experiences, but are influenced by overall wellbeing. We function best when our bodies and brains are healthy and well balanced. My work with children and adolescents has informed my practice with adults as early experiences influence adult perceptions and decisions. I practice with a developmental perspective. My initial career in nursing informs my perspective to treat body, mind and spirit as a whole. Along with adult psychotherapy, I am committed to children and adolescents who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and learning difficulties.

I believe everyone's feelings, personal history, strengths, and struggles are unique. At the same time, we are all a part of the connected, human story. But sometimes we can feel alone in our suffering, or even when we try and achieve positive goals. I work with adults, couples, and families by using my diverse training in a way that fits their particular styles and needs. Through relational connection, collaborating on concrete coping skills, and exploration of current and past patterns, I have seen tremendous healing in my partnership with clients.

Are you living with the effects of trauma or an abusive relationship? It IS possible to move beyond difficult experiences. Therapy is a safe space to tackle the symptoms instead of yourself. Through collaboration we discover strengths inside you that will bring you healing. A traumatic childhood can shape the story you have about yourself and your ability to achieve healthy connections. Unhealthy/Unwanted romantic or sexual relationships can effect how you view love and what you deserve. Let's work together to rediscover YOU, understanding your experience in a way that brings relief, moving beyond events that cause pain.

Currently accepting New Patients. Somatically Informed treatment-Emotion acceptance and regulation. Life can become difficult at times. We need support and we need help navigating through the storms. If you have struggled with anxiety, depression, feel like you're stuck in a rut and want to change from unhelpful patterns of thinking or behavior, you have come to the right place. Perceptions become facts in our minds because we become hard wired due to our experiences; but because of that we can also rewire our minds which is where the hope comes in. Change can happen for you and it is never too late to start again.

I believe therapy is a process in which people nurture their strengths and understand the experiences that have shaped their lives. Together we will work holistically, while we explore the thoughts that bring us joy and the triggers that cause us pain and sadness. With over 2 decades of experience working with adults and teens, I have helped people who live with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and psychotic disorders live fuller and happier lives. Sessions with me are a very interactive process that blends cognitive based therapy and mindful practices with natural humor and compassion.

I am passionate about helping women to truly thrive and find meaning in life. Being a woman is hard and often comes with many expectations. There’s pressure to have a successful career and healthy relationships, to be a good mom, to look put together, to be physically/emotionally healthy... Many of the women I work with find themselves feeling stressed and overwhelmed to the point that their physical and mental health may suffer. Maybe this sounds like you. You want to look inward, find healing and regain a sense of control. You want to develop tools to manage your mental load and move out of survival mode. You want to hope again.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
