I utilize an integrative approach in my treatment using somatic interventions and attachment-based theories with a trauma-informed lens.
Is anxiety, depression, fear or a traumatic past leaving you feeling numb, flat or emotionally disconnected from others, and more importantly yourself? Perhaps you keep choosing the wrong partners or stay in unhappy relationships not knowing how to move forward. Maybe intergenerational trauma is impacting your emotional wellness and you want to stop that cycle from passing onto future generations. What if there's a way to feel more consciously embodied? If you are ready to let go of your painful past, oppressive narratives, and limiting beliefs; I am here to help guide you through your healing journey.

My name is Eliza Haughey, LPCC. I see the therapeutic alliance as the most important part of therapy. People need to feel safe, seen, and heard. A therapist should be a confidant and empower clients to feel comfortable sharing the experiences they are going through, from the profound to the mundane. I work with depression, anxiety, life changes and adjustment issues, addiction, eating disorders, and trauma.

No longer alone. We are here with you. In life, we experience different events, such as the recent pandemic, financial stress, overwhelming anxiety and pressure, the loss of a loved one, the unexpected divorce, a difficult birth, etc. and adjust the best we can, using our strengths and supports. We mostly do well. However, sometimes our coping strategies are insufficient to achieve our long term goals and heal our emotional and/or relationship wounds. You turn to others for support and guidance, such as family, friends, religious and ethnic community, and sometimes, you want to go deeper within yourself to seek out the answers.

Do you often find yourself wondering if you are making "the right" decisions in your life? Do you often doubt yourself or the choices you have made? Is it very important to you to be liked and accepted by others? Do you put off big life changes because you fear failure or the uncertainty of the future? Did you come from a family who had high expectations of you? If so, you may have always been "the best" and used to being successful in everything you do. You gain a great deal of pride from your accomplishments but find satisfaction is fleeting or nonexistent. You are always thinking about what you need to achieve next.

We all need support at some point in our lives, yet asking for help can be one of the hardest things to do. Everyone deserves to live their best life, use their voice and be free in their body. As humans our sense of self is shaped by old stories, the environment we grew up and live in, relationships, past traumas, impacted socio-political-economic and cultural influences, that may have clouded our vision of ourselves or who we want to be. My service as a therapist is to help you speak your truth. Find your way back to yourself. Reinvent, rediscover, tell and rewrite your story. Change is a moment by moment process.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
