My work with couples is based on the EFT model (Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples) in which I have advanced level training.
Therapy is a wonderful opportunity for personal growth. It is also helpful in overcoming common symptoms such as anxiety and depression, for improving relationships and for changing behaviors that may hinder quality of life. It is common to experience hesitation or ambivalence when starting therapy, much like many other new beginnings. I encourage you to try. People frequently report feeling better just by taking the first step of calling and making a first appointment. I view therapy as a collaborative process in which, together, we will explore, understand and conquer the obstacles you have encountered in your journey.

I use IFS, EMDR, structural family therapy, attachment, EFT, play therapy, expressive art therapy modalities.
I believe that people are resilient and resourceful, capable of overcoming difficulties. Sometimes we get entangled in personal and relational patterns that can overwhelm our resources. I help clients identify these problematic patterns and empower them to break free from patterns that do not serve them well. I focus on my client's interpersonal relationships and relationships with larger social systems. I have experience working with children, teens, families, and couples on several issues, including family and couple distress, trauma, and various presentations of anxiety and depression through a systemic and attachment-based lens.

If you're facing challenges around sex, infidelity, non-monogamy, or feeling disconnected in your relationship, you're not alone. Perhaps you're constantly clashing over mismatched sex drives, or your body isn’t responding how you’d like during intimacy. Maybe you’re curious about exploring new dynamics or opening your relationship, but don’t know where to start. You might even be reeling from the pain of infidelity, unsure if healing is possible (it is). I’m here to guide you through these struggles. You don’t have to stay stuck in frustration or pain—things can change, and I can help you get there.

In Emotionally Focused Therapy, I target the areas of negative patterns of behaviors and cycle in the relationship that couples get cut in and with my help they can access to their emotional needs and bond that they once had and desire.
LIfe is challenging for anyone living on earth, emotional chaos, wanting to have a safe place to connect with each other and people around us, deal with partners, children, extended families, how to learn and hold on to enjoyment in life even with experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression or other illnesses.

My clinical approach to psychotherapy is an eclectic mix of Humanistic/Existential, Solutions-Focused, Psychodynamic/Relational, Emotionally Focused, Family Systems, Cognitive-Behavioral theories and many more.
Carl Jung said: “It is what you are that heals, not what you know”. The journey of self-discovery is exactly that – getting to know and deeply appreciating your true and authentic self, even when that essence may be covered by trauma, hardship and suffering. It is this uncovering that many who experience psychotherapy to be transformative and healing refer to as a “re-birth”, a coming home to and an unfolding of who you truly are. Engaging in the process of self-inquiry can be a rewarding and even a life-changing experience, especially in the presence of an empathic and compassionate other.

As a faith-based, trauma-focused therapist, I embrace an eclectic approach, knowing that one size does not fit all. Have you ever felt stuck & alone, as if life didn’t go as planned? Overwhelmed by challenges others don’t understand? Or like your mind and body are out of sync, hiding behind a facade? Frustrated that no one sees you’re not okay? Angry? I combine research-based practices with psychological insights, drawing from psychodynamics, trauma research, emotionally-focused therapy, developmental neuroscience, multicultural perspectives, and more. My approach is to offering you the truth you need, even when it's tough to hear.

I use an eclectic approach, employing several modalities (TRM, Bowen, EFT, IFS, etc.
Here you will find a compassionate & authentic space in which you learn to more deeply connect with yourself (and others), so you can finally discover what's behind your typical “knee-jerk reactions” & why your “go to” coping strategies seem to cause more distress than the original problems! Then we'll make meaningful shifts to uncover new and healthier ways to approach life and relationships. Clients often come to me for help with a broad range of concerns, like: trauma, anxiety, depression, pain, existential malaise, creative blocks, infertility challenges, grief, & family/relationship drama and communication difficulties.

I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy and Gottman Method to resolve interpersonal conflicts, untangle the root of distressing emotions, and develop healthy communication patterns and boundaries.
Do you feel as though your anxiety and depression are unmanageable? How about feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or helplessness like you’ve hit rock bottom and are struggling to find hope for tomorrow? Once we start to unravel the details of our past and trauma we give ourselves the ability to process feelings that we have long suppressed. I aim to collaborate with you and provide tools to decrease the challenging feelings you are currently facing and achieve a more integrated and balanced sense of self, leading to emotional healing and personal growth.

My approach to psychotherapy is eclectic. I believe in working and creating an individual treatment approach unique to each of my clients. I am a person centered but also psychodynamic, in that I believe that the unconscious is an important door to change where we can uncover the root of patterns of behavior. I also have a passion for working with couples and helping them break free from difficult communication patterns using Emotion Focused Therapy ( EFT), which focuses on the attachment or strength of the bond a couple has and emotions that are getting in the way of safety, connection, and love. etc.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
