I focus on personal strengths and use an eclectic method tailored to the client's particular needs and personality, with elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, mindfulness, and EMDR.
I work with adult clients who struggle with anxiety, grief and loss, and the effects of trauma. Issues with trust, inability to relax, and diminished self-confidence are just a few of the ways trauma can have a lasting impact. In my office, you will find a safe, supportive environment free of judgement. I value the voice and individuality of each of my clients, and honor the sensitive nature of the therapeutic process, treating each client with respect and compassion. I have a special interest in helping clients with reproductive trauma, LGBTQ clients, and other mental health professionals who are interested in their own therapy.

I believe in walking with individuals through their life experiences in a non-judgmental manner. I believe people are not a product of life circumstances; therefore, they do not need to live self-punishingly. I believe individuals have the ability to process past traumas and issues, resulting in a more fulfilling life. Gaining personal insight and personal growth is a strength that will manifest and multiply in relationships. Working with people is my passion; I believe your past does not define your future.

Areas of Expertise: EMDR Certified, I also use Internal Family Systems frequently.
People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons: Relief from sadness or anxiety, to break patterns that cause pain, to get clarity when you just don't know why life feels like an uphill battle or to simply get an "emotional tune-up." With compassion, emotional safety, and a clear, candid therapeutic style, I help people work through life's challenges using effective, evidence-based treatments that target the underlying causes for painful feelings. I believe healing happens holistically; Mind-Body-Spirit are aligned when people feel "right" within themselves.

I have an eclectic approach to the theories I rely on in the therapeutic process including but not limited to CBT, EMDR, and Psychodynamic.
Welcome! I work with individual adults and adolescents who are feeling stuck and desiring some sort of shift in their lives. This can look like a a life transition (going to college, career change, etc), relationship with yourself (the way you view and treat yourself), or shifting your overall mood (anxiety, depression, trauma). I aim to be a partner in change, rather than the expert on your life. I help people understand why they do the things they do by exploring how their past impacts their present day functioning. I offer tools for you to use in the present moment while we are gaining awareness of your patterns.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
