Have you ever looked at your life and thought, “Why is this happening? Is it always going to be like this? What can I do?” Do you feel anxious, sad or misunderstood more often than not? Maybe life seems easier and better for everyone around you. Maybe you're surrounded by people, but you feel alone. Your relationships feel like a struggle to maintain. Conflict and discomfort seem like the norm, not the exception. Sometimes it seems like it will never get better and no one understands.

I work with professionals and women in midlife who are stressed out, going through life transitions, and coping with past trauma.
Work and relationships can be stressful. Do you find yourself dwelling on your mistakes, wondering, “Why is life so difficult?” Every challenge seems like a personal failing, a sign that you are broken or flawed in some way. You may even wonder if past issues are negatively impacting you in the present.

Therapy can benefit anyone. If you are seeking a therapist, it must mean that you are ready or getting ready to create change in your life. Whether you are trying to overcome something stressful or looking to develop healthy habits, therapy is one way to reach these goals. My clients tend to be more successful when they utilize what they learn outside of therapy to develop a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle. Therapy is a tool for those who are willing to reflect and confront difficult feelings in order to theoretically come out on the other side with more courage and self-awareness than before.

As a faith-based, trauma-focused therapist, I embrace an eclectic approach, knowing that one size does not fit all. Have you ever felt stuck & alone, as if life didn’t go as planned? Overwhelmed by challenges others don’t understand? Or like your mind and body are out of sync, hiding behind a facade? Frustrated that no one sees you’re not okay? Angry? I combine research-based practices with psychological insights, drawing from psychodynamics, trauma research, emotionally-focused therapy, developmental neuroscience, multicultural perspectives, and more. My approach is to offering you the truth you need, even when it's tough to hear.

Having a good relationship with oneself is a process and a practice, and can be cultivated through the therapeutic process. Every relationship is dependent on how we talk to ourselves, and this inner conversation is what therapy can shift. If you have the willingness, huge transformation is possible. I am in this field to help people sort out a way through and beyond unnecessary suffering, and towards deep peace with themselves and others. I have successfully treated high-functioning CEOs as well as people traumatized, addicted, and broke. Being human is challenging, and with the right support, beautiful. Call. I can help!

I'm not in the business of instigating change. I am in the delicate and complex work of empowering it. Because I believe you have the wisdom to bring about change. Because change is your work and your choice; my role is to set the stage, empty it, illuminate what stands in the way and explore with you the possibilities for change. Ultimately you decide. The fact that you're here already ensures it. My job is to notice your process, reflect and honor it. In this space, I have seen amazing change happen.

Finding the right therapist to work with is an important decision. The therapist's credentials and specialties are factors to consider, but perhaps the most important factor is "do I feel a connection with this person and can I talk openly with her about the challenges I'm facing?" It is an honor and a privilege to support you in your journey. I love helping people examine their lives, understand themselves better, and navigate their relationships more skillfully. My style as a therapist is pragmatic and I apply various approaches based on your individual needs.

Does life feel unrecognizable right now? Maybe you are facing a new reality, one you did not expect to be facing now, or possibly ever. You heard what the doctors said, but it still doesn’t feel quite real, like tomorrow when you wake up you’ll realize this was all just a very bad dream. It feels terrifying, uncomfortable, and exhausting, and you are having a hard time focusing your attention on anything else. You may find your thoughts rapidly cycling between endless “what if?” and “how did I get here?” spirals. You are definitely not alone in feeling this way.

Welcome! Are you worrying about your important relationships, career, parenting, adult children, mood, or health? For over 24 years, I have helped people with anxiety, depression, and grief feel better and change for good. You want to feel happy, but a painful past keeps you in the same patterns despite your best efforts to change. Fear and worry make it hard to feel secure in your decisions. You want to be more successful in managing when to control and where to just let go, but feel stuck. You try so hard, but the choices you're making just aren't working out so well and you are tired of feeling sad. You are not alone, I can help!

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
