I have been a psychotherapist for 30+ years. My preference is to work with people who want to go beyond immediate problem solving to an understanding of the underlying causes of their difficulties. I am aware of how challenging it can be to choose a therapist. My work style is to listen deeply and be collaborative. I am interactive and direct and use the therapy relationship to understand dynamics that may not be visible to my client. I have a strong belief in our potential to grow and change especially with increased awareness within a therapy relationship.

Therapy isn’t easy — but that doesn't mean it has to be joyless. If you’re looking for a therapist who can delve into the dark stuff with both the compassionate support and the sense of humor that it deserves, you’ve come to the right place. I'm an Associate Marriage and Family therapist who works with individuals and couples of all genders and orientations to improve their relationships. I love working with clients to improve communication and increasing intimacy, especially when partners come from different cultural backgrounds and hold different values.

My areas of specialization include anxiety, pregnancy and postpartum concerns, and relationship issues. I specialize in empowering professionals in high pressure fields to quiet their inner critic and manage stress to feel more confident and balanced. As a provider certified in perinatal mental health (and a parent myself), I am passionate about supporting pregnant & postpartum people to address mood and anxiety concerns and navigate the adjustment to parenthood to feel more connected and at ease. With relationships, I support partners with improving communication and intimacy, rebuilding trust, and developing a deep, lasting bond.

Struggling with relationships? Experiencing the many ways substance use can create pain, whether for you or someone you love? Are you living with a mental health condition that requires support? Identifying limiting beliefs and unhelpful behaviors is an essential step to living an emotionally stable life, whatever difficult crossroads you may be experiencing. Often, emotional recovery begins with healing long-buried childhood trauma. And I believe relief can sometimes happen as early as the first session. (Licensed in CA, TX and FL.)

You feel bad about your body. You have to eat perfectly or the day is ruined. You cycle between being “good” (under-eating/ being rigid) and “bad” (overeating/ losing control) around food. You vow to be “good” going forward. The cycle is eating away at your self esteem. You double down on your efforts to control yourself, but you’re growing more obsessed and frustrated by the day. Even when you succeed, it never feels like enough. You never feel like enough. Anxiety is making it difficult to connect with your friends, feel confident dating, or relax when you’re alone.

Life can feel so stressful and challenging, and therapy can really help with that. As an Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, I help couples uncover negative relational patterns as well as their underlying longings and needs so they can feel much closer and more connected for a lifetime of love. My approach is non-pathologizing, collaborative and effective. I also work with individuals looking to feel better, whether it's anxiety, depression or any kind of relationship issue that's causing distress. I use a combination of cognitive-behavioral interventions and psychodynamic approach in my work, as well as a sense of humor.

Somatic Experiencing (SE) takes healing to a deeper level. Combined with 'top-down' approaches, SE helps identify strengths and intentions beneath painful survival patterns. Shame, fear and anger transform into vital life energy. Surviving becomes thriving. As a private practice psychotherapist based in SF & Marin for several years, I was fortunate to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. During the pandemic, my practice shifted to primarily virtual.

My approach is best described as interactive, personable, nonjudgmental, and aimed at bringing about change that's both meaningful and real. I tend not to view people's issues or concerns as a form of pathology or neurosis, but rather as particular problems in living. I see each person as genuinely unique, and so avoid cookie-cutter approaches. My role is to help individuals and couples work through problems as effectively and efficiently as possible, in a way that builds confidence, self-respect, hope, and, ultimately, a fresh way of living life.

What I’ve learned from 30 years of working with individuals and couples is that each therapy is a unique collaboration between client and therapist. People may come to therapy because the external circumstances of their lives are difficult or because they are aware that their inner life is preventing them from living fully, or both. My job is to make use of the many different modalities of therapy that I am trained in and listen carefully for which would most help the client get where they need to go. I always respect that it is the atmosphere of mutual trust and safety that allows these modalities to work.

Most importantly, my ideal client is someone who is desiring and ready for change. You may feel stuck in some aspect of your life such as career or relationships. You may have suffered a traumatic event. You may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression. And you have reached a point when you are ready to take action even if you don't quite know what that will look like yet. What I love most is accompanying someone on their journey inward, offering a safe space for you to be fully you.

East meets West. It is a phrase we hear often but how does it translate into practice? The pull lies in the strength of the familiar; the push is an urge to create space and jump into the unfamiliar. As an individual who was raised between two cultures, I offer a warm and safe space to discuss cultural competency as it relates to your life. Retaining your cultural values and traditions while simultaneously assimilating to the societal norms of your geographic upbringing can lead to many questions about ourselves in the past, present and future. I believe strongly in your ability to grow if nurtured in an encouraging environment.
