The work I do is cutting edge.
The most important questions is: "What pain brought you here? What is the hardest issue for you to deal with?" The most important result of the first session is that you walk out feeling that I understand you and will be able to be your ally in working through your issues. In other words we need to like each other and you need to feel that I have the expertise to handle your problems and not judge you.

We at the Bay Area Center for Adolescents understand that adolescence can be a difficult time for preteens, teens, young adults, and parents. On the one hand, adolescents are learning to manage life on their own and wanting more independence, but on the other hand, they may not be prepared for the responsibilities of life or realizing the consequences of their actions. We work with adolescents and their families to navigate this difficult time while helping adolescents to become independent, but still maintain the relationship with family.
The Bay Area Center for Adolescents is a group of providers who all know how to connect with adolescents and their families and provide effective therapy.

I have experience working with folks with Eating Disorders, Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, and self-harming behaviors.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is where growth happens. I strive to create a warm, trusting, and safe relationship for clients to be able to express their authentic selves, without fear of judgement. I enjoy working with young adults who are navigating life transitions, new experiences, or a desire to know themselves more deeply. I believe that healing and change are possible given the right tools. I work through a psychodynamic and person-centered lens, where we can explore your past experiences to learn how they have shaped who you are today and determine where to go next.

I have spent the last 10 years of my professional career honing cutting-edge techniques that are designed to help people master their anxiety.
Do you feel like you can’t live your life to the fullest because of the “What ifs”? Is your anxiety holding you back from taking the actions needed to advance your career and/or relationship? Worse yet, do you feel like you should somehow just get over it because everyone else seems to be doing just that? I know those feelings well, but I won’t sit here and pretend that I know exactly how YOU are feeling. So, let’s work together to start decoding the complexity of your emotions to not just simply control it, but learn to accept it as an intricate part of yourself.

I am a white, neurospicy (ADHD), NB/transgender person with a history as an art worker. I work from an anti-racist, intersectional feminist, and social justice oriented lens. As someone who has sat on the therapy couch for many years, I know how daunting it is to find a therapist that understands the needs of neurodiverse and transgender people. But, you don't have to identify in those ways to seek therapy with me. I work with many people of different ages, races, sexualities, and genders. All are welcome. If you find yourself in periods of self-isolation and loneliness due to things that have happened in the past, you're not alone.

In far too many situations individuals with bipolar disorder, depression, and schizophrenia have internalized messages that there is no hope, that they are simply victims of their mental illness, and unable to reach their life goals. My practice, Inspiration Psychological Services' primary purpose is to provide individuals who struggle with mental illness with the neccessary coping skills that they need to manage symptoms, cope with everyday life challenges, and improve the quality of their lives.
I strongly believe in providing a supportive atmosphere that consists of understanding individual experiences, addressing needs, instilling hope, building on strengths, and recognizing potential.

We all want the best for our children: to help them grow and teach them the necessary skills to succeed in life. When we communicate with open ears and conscious hearts, this allows for healthy relationships to build. Effective therapy utilized this approach of open communication in order to foster the growth and development of youth. I strive to help every child feel that they have control over their lives, and offer the necessary skills to be happy, healthy, and to make their own positive decisions.

Self-Harming Therapists
How does therapy for self-harm work?
A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.
Which therapies are best for self-harm?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.
Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?
Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
