My approach integrates psychodynamic theory/depth therapy, attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), The Gottman Method, narrative therapy, and mindfulness.
The people who come to me are curious to get to know themselves in a deeper way. I support my clients with improving connection and managing conflict in their relationships, embracing authenticity, mitigating perfectionism, setting healthy boundaries, interrupting unhelpful patterns, mindfully reducing anxiety, and healing from trauma. Together, we can work toward both short-term and long-term change.

With my foundation in psychodynamic theory and extensive training in Somatic Experiencing, NARM, DBT, and mindfulness, I'll tailor your treatment to your specific needs.
In my 20 years in practice, I have supported many people looking for a deeper relationship with themselves and others; people with a wide range of concerns and clinical presentations. I have a particular interest in developmental and attachment trauma. The tools I utilize are also highly effective in relieving chronic stress, and in helping almost anyone cope who feels stuck emotionally, physically, or spiritually. Whatever your unique needs, I'll work closely with you to identify what's holding you back - and ways we can help you move forward. I also support clients in the integration of psychedelic experiences.

My theoretical orientation is psychodynamic and relational: I believe in the importance of relationships, including ours, as part of the healing.
“Tell me what you fear and I will tell you what has happened to you.” - D.W. Winnicott. A guiding principle of my therapy is linking the suffering of today to the root of why it is so painful. My interest and expertise has focused on: 1) Perinatal Mental Health (pregnancy, loss, infertility, and postpartum), 2) Couples Work (particularly grappling with issues of monogamy), and 3) Long-term Individual Psychotherapy (struggles with relationships, creativity, and being in touch with your true self). I believe in being Good Enough rather than striving to be the perfect (partner, parent, person).

We often come to therapy because something in our life has emerged in a way we find challenging to navigate on our own. I approach our work together with this in mind, and as an honored participant in your journey toward growth and deepened insight. My therapeutic style is rooted in relational psychodynamic, IFS, and ACT interventions and centered in values of patience, humility, empathy, and humor. I strive to see you through the lens of your unique life experiences and to work collaboratively so we can effectively address your concerns. My hope is that, together, we can help you live a life that feels authentic and empowered.

My training is in psychodynamic, family and solution-oriented therapy, and more recently Gendlin's "Focusing" techniques.
For me, therapy is a way of understanding what might make for more pleasure in your relationships, greater satisfaction in work and interests, and more acceptance of yourself and your ways of being. It's a collaboration in discovery. My style is warm and active. I believe laughing and crying together is better than alone. In my practice and supervision over the past 40 years, I always encourage others to become more curious about themselves. My clients have diverse backgrounds, and orientations. I avoid psychological jargon and giving advice. I give homework to try out changes. An extensive consultation is free.

The kind of therapy I practice is called psychodynamic psychotherapy, which is a flexible approach that can be tailored to individuals' unique needs and provides the opportunity for lasting change.
I imagine you've found your way here because you're feeling stuck and needing a reason to hope that things will change. Others may not see that you're feeling this way, but you know you're in need of relief. If this sounds like what you're going through, I may be a good fit to help you.

My theoretical approaches are predominantly psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral.
I have specialized in two areas.  The first involves the treatment of loss, grief, trauma and the  anxiety disorders that sometimes accompany these events. With a new perspective, most people find it easier to incorporate new coping skills.  This can help you work through your feelings and losses. The second area of specialty is women's health, especially during pregnancy and the postpartum period of life. Having a newborn and the adjustment to mothering brings on many challenges. I work with women to help them cope with the changes to themselves, their bodies as well as their relationships.

My approach uses relational psychodynamic therapy, which focuses on understanding how your past relationships and experiences shape your current emotions and behaviors.
I work with individuals, couples, and families facing anxiety, depression, and relationship issues, with a special focus on Asian and other POC immigrant and cross-cultural families who have experienced complex trauma. I believe our symptoms make sense when viewed through the lens of our early experiences, family histories, and the systems we live in. We often develop resilience and survival strategies in difficult situations that may no longer serve us well. Therapy is most effective when it addresses the root causes of these issues, not just the symptoms you're experiencing now.

I have training in and experience with a variety of approaches particularly Psychodynamic, Object Relations, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Drama Therapy and Psychodrama.
People come to psychotherapy for a variety of reasons. Making our way in this world demands so much self-reliance and yet we are given very little opportunity to get to know ourselves well. We keep our fears and uncertainty about whether we have what it takes to survive our struggles very close to our chests. This is such a fragile place to live. Ignoring our emotions and "soldiering on" creates a life of isolation and confusion. This may manifest as depression, anxiety, or uncertainty about how to wish, desire, and create a life worth living.
