I imagine you've found your way here because you're feeling stuck and needing a reason to hope that things will change. Others may not see that you're feeling this way, but you know you're in need of relief. If this sounds like what you're going through, I may be a good fit to help you.

While you can't always avoid the challenges that arise in your life, you do have choices about how you address them. My approach draws from the idea that there is much to learn from these struggles, and that by decreasing the shame that makes it hard for you to face yourself, you create opportunities for making real and enduring changes in your life. But you don't have to do this alone.

In my 30+ years practicing psychotherapy, I have had extensive experience working with adults who are trying to adjust to the problems that life presents to us---a difficult childhood, trauma, anxiety, depression, postpartum depression, stress, working with a child who has a difficult mental illness, sexual abuse, couples' relationship struggles (heterosexual, gay, and lesbian), and grief from the loss of someone treasured. Always my treatment goal is to facilitate the improvement in the quality of life for each individual and to look for the creative aspect within the destruction. Healing is a natural process, but sometimes it is difficult to remember that fact.

Please note: I am no longer accepting Anthem Blue Cross Insurance. When we are faced with a crisis, transition, or other stressful life situation we want to be comforted, supported, and given direction; in other words, we want to feel better. While we can often receive useful help from friends and family it often isn't sufficient to resolve the issue or prevent it from reoccurring. Old habits and patterns tend to be stubborn but change is possible. In my view, real and lasting growth begins with the willingness to try new approaches to old problems.

I strive to facilitate a reflective and explorative environment where the unbearable can be held and truth can be spoken. Multicultural and bilingual elements of my identity, and a history of enduring ethnic discrimination and immigration, significantly inform how I listen to my clients, think through trauma and fragmentation with them. Unconscious repetitions of aversion, clinging, and reenactments of familiar/familial ways of being bind us in suffering. Through psychotherapy, rigid frames of being can be deconstructed and psychological space can be reclaimed for creativity, desire and becoming.

Often, our past relationships leave us wounded. The story that we tell ourselves becomes permeated with negative thoughts, low self-worth, and shame. As these feelings manifest, we become anxious and depressed. Therapy can help us discover perspectives that create a new narrative, one in which we have different ways to manage our emotions and lead a more enjoyable life.

When we are able to maintain stability, we trust ourself and others. However it can be difficult to feel this, as we carry barriers that stand in the way. A lack of safety, overwhelm, and lasting effects of a painful past often leave us feeling misunderstood, fearful, unsure, and in pain. But, it is possible to discover the reasons behind such feelings, and how past and present day experiences are complicating life, causing confusion and pain, and holding us back. Together we will explore, gain understanding, and develop trust.

Meaningful relationships are an essential part of fulfillment and happiness. I believe in the unique power of the relationship that develops between therapist and client. Through an exploration of this interaction, we can more wholly understand your past and current relationships and help shape future experiences. I work with people who are struggling in a variety of ways and are ready to dig in and do some difficult and deeply powerful work that will lead to greater choice and freedom. I view my opportunity to join individuals in their journey toward self-understanding as a great privilege and find the work exciting and gratifying.

A good therapy session should feel emotional and immediate, yet grounded in the past so one can understand and feel old experiences in new ways. Sometimes there is laughter and sometimes there are tears. A good therapy session feels alive and satisfying.

Everyone experiences difficulties at times, including problems that we create for ourselves and troubles we have in responding to the opportunities and challenges in life. These may be problems in love or work, symptoms such as phobias, panic attacks, or extreme shyness, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic reactions, or self-destructive impulses.

Therapy is an open, non-judgmental space to come into contact with your thoughts, feelings and the complex and challenging aspects of life. Through the process you will begin to know yourself, more honestly and intimately in order to live a deeply meaningful life with clear intention and heart aligned purpose.
