Because everyone comes with their own needs, goals, and styles, I am flexible in my approach. I can be practical and problem-focused, but much of my work is deeper, and deals with emotional patterns developed early in life, I work a lot with trauma and loss. Attending to the therapy relationship is also important for learning about relationship patterns and trust. I bring my love of creativity to my work as well. Working with dreams and imagery, I find, can bring surprising insight. When therapy really takes off, I find that clients often discover their own creativity and a sense of life purpose.

If you’ve stumbled upon my page, you’re likely seeking emotional support and helpful skills to navigate life’s challenges. Perhaps you’ve felt stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from your work, family, relationships, or even yourself. You may identify with feelings of loss and overwhelm, as you contemplate life transitions such as being a new mother, parent, or partner. You can resonate with the guilt and pressure of being a child of immigrants, a working professional, and trying to build a life that feels intentional.

I have over 100 hours of specific training in responder culture and mental health in addition to over 10 years of experience in trauma and grief.
The average person will experience 3-5 traumatic events in their life. The average first responder will experience 188 in their career. We live in a society that has normalized “suck it up” as a coping strategy and that doesn’t work. Are you a first responder (law enforcement , fire, EMS, dispatch)? Is the job itself and/or organizational stress feeling heavier than it once did? Are you noticing changes in yourself that you don’t understand or need help with? Post-traumatic stress injuries are extremely common in first responders and they are treatable. Let’s talk.

Therapy is particularly helpful with problems at work and in tranistional times (engagement, marriage, childbirth, empty nest, divorce, illness, and job loss).
I think you know what would make you happy but don't know how to make it happen. This applies to both individuals and couples. People stop themselves from moving forward because they think they can't or don't deserve to get their own needs met. I can help you overcome blocks, fears, guilt, depression, and/or self-defeating behaviors so you can free yourself to be happy and more successful. It seems daunting but, with support and direction, it is possible to improve your life. This is even true for people who are suffering from more debilitating problems such as Bipolar Disorder, OCD,or Schizoaffective Disorders.

Having a safe and supportive space where one can talk openly, is so very important. Feeling understood and listened to promotes growth and change. Together we will talk about what’s going on now, past events and relationships, and how they might be affecting you. I will work to develop a trusting, supportive relationship to more clearly understand what is troubling you. My clients have enjoyed success in overcoming anxiety and depression, connecting with others, defining and attaining goals, and increasing self-esteem.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
