I am a licensed psychologist with over 20 years of clinical experience. My approach to psychotherapy is referred to as psychoanalytic or insight-oriented therapy. This type of therapy stresses that each person and their difficulties are unique. And that our difficulties are often rooted in factors outside of our awareness. People seek therapy for a situation that requires attention, and in my experience this generally concerns multiple and interacting problems rather than isolated symptoms. As therapy progresses the immediate feelings of distress typically diminish in severity. It then becomes possible to focus on understanding the factors that contributed to

My clinical approach is multi-disciplinary and rooted in psychodynamic theory, existential psychology, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I also have a background in integrative health and wellness, which can contribute to a more in-depth perspective on treatment. My style is collaborative, intuitive, direct, and non-judgemental, and I encourage clients to be true to themselves and transparent. Although treatment is based on an individual's needs and goals, principle themes in all treatment are to help one regain one’s confidence and strength and to reinforce one’s resiliency.

Hi, I’m Kim, and I am honored to be a catalyst to healing and change in your life. Everyone’s story is unique and challenging in it’s own way. I believe life is a journey of learning how to be your best self, and this is not always easy. You must be brave. Sometimes we need support in learning how to learn about ourselves. I believe therapy can be an effective tool for gaining insight into who you are now, who you want to become, and how to get there.

No matter who we are or what our background in life, much of our behavior is influenced by our unconscious mind, and I have learned that facing these unconscious motives in a relational therapy setting can lead to psychological healing, especially when combined with the physical body and somatic experiences. I enjoy engaging with clients in exploration, analysis, and reflective interpretation, and through this, developing a path of healing and growth.

Do you feel stuck, overwhelmed, stressed, or struggle with anxiety, anger or depression? If so, you are in the right place. Do you have goals you'd like to achieve (any goal imaginable) and are struggling to reach those goals? If so, you are ALSO in the right place. I can provide you the tools to be more in the driver's seat of your thoughts, behaviors and how you respond to emotions, which in turn may assist you with living life in more of a "flow state," while actualize your dreams and desires.

I love helping growth-oriented adults who want to address: trauma and dissociation, relationship difficulties, issues with food and body image, chronic stress, anxiety, panic, or depression through building tangible tools and mindfulness-based skills. I welcome clients of diverse backgrounds and seek to provide respectful and culturally sensitive services to all. As an immigrant myself, I have a special appreciation for the experience of first and second generation immigrants. I help many adults and couples address the underlying causes of their conflict, pain, distress, and angst. We will employ different techniques that assist in understanding what lies beneath the surface. I draw from many psychological approaches and world traditions. Also, by thinking about the human experience and acknowledging what happens between us, in the therapy space, as valuable insights for our understanding of you; and by looking at your inner world view.

Therapy is sometimes painful but it is oriented, always, towards vitality. In this work, we address the innermost, often hidden parts of ourselves. We gain more access to our emotional experience. This loosens the constraints of old patterns and allows us to shed whatever has kept us stuck in our ways. In couples therapy, we pay particular attention to the present moment. We observe problems in real-time, slow down, and experiment with something new. In both cases, the purpose is to find a greater sense of connection with ourselves and, finally, with others.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
