Demographics of my clients tend to include LGBTQ+ folx, poly/open relationships, straight men, adoptees, and South Asians.
My typical clients struggle with shame and perfectionism, often preventing them from living fulfilling lives. When stuck in shame, people may question if they're “good enough” in multiple areas of their lives, which creates a cycle of shame that is difficult to get out of alone. I specialize in areas of insecure attachment, attachment/family trauma, CPTSD, grief and loss, sex and gender, obsession/rumination, and anxiety. I am trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and am certified in EMDR.

The uncertainty of these times has left many of us feeling depressed, frightened, anxious, confused, and alone.
Are you looking to make a change in your life? Maybe there is a significant relationship that is not what you wish it was. Maybe you are struggling to make a career change or a big decision at work. Perhaps you are considering relocating to another area. Are you trying to quit smoking, grappling with weight loss, wanting to start an exercise or meditation routine? Or maybe you want to adjust how you react to certain stressors or situations that inevitably crop up in life. My practice “Time for Change” is here for you.

You're feeling generally dissatisfied, like you drew the short straw. You make it look not too bad on the outside, yet feel unfulfilled in relationships with lover, family, friends, coworkers. You have concerns about overdoing something (drinking, working, internet), or a generalized anxiety, perfectionism, or people-pleasing. I am a highly interactive therapist. I know when to bring in humor--and when to go to the dark places with you. Together we will look at how you got here. Through identifying your beliefs, attitudes and needs around relationships and intimacy, we will find the key to unlocking your wellbeing.

A large amount of the therapy I do, creates per manent change in the brain.
The most important questions is: "What pain brought you here? What is the hardest issue for you to deal with?" The most important result of the first session is that you walk out feeling that I understand you and will be able to be your ally in working through your issues. In other words we need to like each other and you need to feel that I have the expertise to handle your problems and not judge you.

My philosophy of care is to provide compassion and support to help you achieve your goals. This is accomplished by focusing on what is important to you, where you will be listened to and heard, and for us to share an honest and accurate reflection of your experience. If you've ever felt stuck or lost, or struggle with intense emotions, or have difficulty connecting with them, therapy with me is a powerful way to find yourself again, to restore balance and hope in yourself, and to revive your innate capacity for resilience and joy.

With over twenty years experience to inform me, I work with my client’s in a compassionate and intentional manner to find the key to build upon inner strengths and potential that they are having difficulty locating or expanding.
We all have an abundance of inner strength, courage and potential available to us. You may be experiencing difficulty accessing these strengths or carrying them into all areas of your life for a variety of reasons. You may also be caught up in experiencing difficulties that don’t allow you to find the inertia or ability to get to your potential. Some of these difficulties that I work to alleviate so that you can find a more rewarding life are: ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, LOW SELF-ESTEEM, FEELINGS OF BEING STUCK, RELATIONSHIPS, Grief

We'll refine who you are as a unique hu man being, where your passions lie, how to hold onto and bring them into the world.
Do you know what you want? Do you want to be free? Happy? Relaxed in your body? Content? Passionate and sexy? Courageous in the face of fear? More connected to your partner or to the Divine? How do you get in the way of living the life you want? Do you constantly judge yourself? Noticing all the ways you "fail" to live up to way you "should" be. Or do you tend to direct that criticism outwards? Blaming others, feeling envy, or always waiting for external circumstances to line up just right so you can finally live how you want.

Accepting new patients (Updated: 9/24). You've been feeling anxious, depressed, burnt out, frustrated, or unfulfilled. By now, you've tried everything you can think of to solve your problems. You may have been let down by your friends, your family, or even other therapists and are wondering how I could possibly help you. Don't worry. I won't make false promises and don't offer my clients trendy "fad" therapies; but, with some hard work, I'll help you begin the process of turning things around.

I've worked with many young adults and adolescents; if you are a parent of an adolescent, feel free to reach out.
You’ve reached a point where you need more support. Maybe you’re feeling alone, questioning parts of your identity, or wanting a safe place to process something that’s been gnawing at you. In therapy, we can identify these issues and start better understanding yourself, and gain more direction and confidence. You and your partner may feel misunderstood by each other, want to communicate better, and want more space for each person’s feelings and needs. You might want more, but are not sure yet, or want something different. We can work to establish better communication and appreciation between you and your partner.

As someone who’s intellectually and/or emotionally brilliant, you likely excel in many areas of your life—whether as a high-achiever, leader, or visionary, yet you have a hard time saying no. You have become so good at helping others that you don't know how to turn it off or down. In fact, when someone asks you what you need, you have no idea how to answer that question. The idea that you need anything makes you feel confused and sometimes nauseous. You’d welcome help, but you don't have any faith or trust in people. You wish you could have relationships with others where you are able to say what you think and feel.

Together, we can radically begin to find a positive and trusting relationship with your sex and sexuality, your friends and ro mantic partners, and most importantly, with yourself.
Growing up did you experience painful or confusing boundary violations? Did someone whom you trusted, respected, or even loved touch you or fondle you in a way that made you feel uncomfortable, scared, or perhaps even made you feel confused and pleasured? Do you feel embarrassed and bothered by your experience, and worry that others will not understand how you have been sexually violated and abused? Do you struggle with managing your ro mantic relationships, your friendships, as well as your emotions and thoughts because your past uncomfortable experience with sex have made sex and your sexuality confusing, uncomfortable or even overstimulating? You are not alone.

As an Asian American male who has experienced, taught and presented on racial/ethnic dynamics and identity issues, I have a deep appreciation for the way life's challenges can be further complicated by problems that stem from intergenerational and intercultural conflicts, especially with our intersecting identities.
If you are struggling with unbearable feelings, loneliness, identity issues, shame, guilt, and/or relationship difficulties, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore yourself in relation to your world. My approach rests on the belief that our ways of understanding and coping with the present may be limited by our previous experiences. By working together, we find new expanded ways to help you understand and cope more effectively.

In an effort to make sense of the difficulties that come with being hu man, some turn to psychotherapy for clarity. If you believe psychotherapy might be able to remedy the issues putting a strain on your wellbeing, then you might be looking in the right place. Beginning psychotherapy can be complicated; it requires a certain level of communication between you and the therapist in order for things to go smoothly.

My name is David Beuer man.
One thing that we have in common is that we all experience suffering. A lost relationship, disappointment at work, substance use that has taken control and chronic self-doubt are a few of the common forms. I have found that we can lessen our suffering with acceptance, self-compassion, mindfulness and the help and support of a therapist who seeks to understand your experience. I I am particularly interested in the process of change. Why, when we know that making a change would be good for us, do we not act?

I work with clients to treat anxiety disorders, depression, and bipolar disorders, as well as increase their ability to regulate emotions and replace impulsive behaviors with effective ones. I also help clients to identify their own intrinsic strengths and values. The effect is an ongoing flow of positive experiences, which help to build confidence, boost self-respect, and improve interpersonal relationships. I offer clients positive regard, non-judgmental stance, and a compassionate environment, where they can feel safe expressing their experiences, thoughts and feelings.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
