As an individual who was raised between two cultures, I offer a warm and safe space to discuss cultural competency as it relates to your life. Retaining your cultural values and traditions while simultaneously assimilating to the societal norms of your geographic upbringing can lead to many questions about ourselves in the past, present and future. I believe strongly in your ability to grow if nurtured in an encouraging environment.

I specialize in trauma, depression and anxiety and help people remove barriers that prevent them from achieving their highest potential. The process includes learning new habits, unlearning old habits, and uncovering and breaking unhealthy cycles. I graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA and have 16 years of experience as a psychotherapist.

Life is chaotic enough when it's going well, so when you throw in life stressors, trauma triggers, and dating anxiety, it can be incredibly overwhelming. I help my clients work through overcoming trauma and difficult childhood upbringing, navigating dating issues, and understanding and managing their anxiety. I sprinkle in some humor into my work when appropriate because I believe it's important to be able to laugh in trying times. I ask my clients for permission before offering new viewpoints or challenging some of their unhelpful personal beliefs because I want them to feel in control of where our sessions may go.

When considering what my ideal client looks like, I find I can be the most helpful to someone who is curious about themselves and what makes them tick. They see a future for themself but are having trouble figuring out how to get there. They may come with the odds stacked against them due to being a part of a marginalized community or plagued with depression, anxiety, trauma, and/or substance abuse. Maybe they feel stuck, confused, or uncertain. That's where I come in.

My eclectic approach incorporates Psychodynamic therapy (talk therapy), Internal Family Systems (IFS) or "parts-work", EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral therapy, a Solution-Focused approach & Life Coaching skills. I offer support & guidance as you deal with stressors, changes or challenges that have arisen in your Life. I enjoy and have worked successfully with clients of all ethnicities & socio-economic levels. As well as enjoy being a therapist for other allied professionals & therapists. I also offer Ketamine (Psychedelic Medicine) Integration sessions.

Hello! My name is Dr. Laura Wilhoit and I offer virtual therapy throughout the state of California. In my 12+ years of experience, I have worked with a variety of people, including those struggling with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and substance use. Outside of depression and anxiety, one of my current areas of focus is helping people as they adjust to parenting challenges, including postpartum depression. I am certified through the Perinatal Mental Health Certification program (PMH-C) to help parents. As a mother of 3 children myself, I know that parenting can be challenging and parents often aren't given sufficient support.

Some goals set by my clients have included being happier, feeling less anxious, improving their focus on a specific habit, building their awareness on their future, improving their relationships with their significant other, and increasing their connections with others.
