I am fascinated by the affects of attachment and bonding on interpersonal relationships and have a deep commitment to helping people articulate and address the core issues with which they struggle. I am currently working towards my PMH-C (Perinatal Mental Health Certification), as I am passionate about supporting women and families experiencing fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, pregnancy/infant loss, TFMR, grief, adoption, and parenting. I am a a mom who struggled with postpartum anxiety and OCD with both of my pregnancies, so I know firsthand how shameful and isolating these experiences can be.

You're feeling overwhelmed with all the changes in your life. Maybe it’s adjusting to marriage, parenthood or dealing with postpartum. Maybe the spark has left your marriage and you've started having an affair, or you're feeling upside down having just discovered your partner is having an affair. Maybe you just got divorced and feel like you lost your identity. Or you're worried about the impact the divorce will have on your children. Whatever it is, you feel like you have no one to turn to, no one to confide in, and your mind is filled with racing thoughts.

We are focused on perinatal health for new and experienced families.
Ask yourself the following questions: When was the last time you felt like yourself? Are you experiencing frightening pictures or memories that keep popping into your mind? Are you having trouble sleeping? Are you having stomach problems? Is your heart racing all the time? Do you feel like something bad is always going to happen? Do you feel numb and depressed? Are you feeling disconnected from everyone? Even after a major life event or traumatic experience has passed, we often feel discomfort in our bodies. Vida Somatic Therapy works alongside people to ease their physical and mental discomfort.

I am both Perinatal and EMDR certified.
Here is what I believe: Everyone needs an objective person to help support and guide them through life’s challenges, transitions and hurdles. I believe the most important aspect of therapy is a trusting, nonjudgmental, and compassionate relationship with your therapist; therapy should feel safe, and provide you relief. I enjoy working with people from different background to help them discover their true self and overcoming the obstacles that may obscure their journey to happiness and self-fulfillment. I utilize humanistic mindful approaches to support wellness. I have availability in evening for couples and individuals.

I am also passionate about perinatal mental health, helping women and new parents through all stages of their pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting journeys, including with issues related to fertility and loss.
Anxiety and stress can get in the way of living your best life. Taking the step to start therapy may be uncomfortable, but being willing and open to try new things can lead to growth and allow you to live a life that is important to you. It is my priority to provide a safe and nonjudgmental environment where you can begin this process. Working together, we can find ways to overcome difficulties and build meaning in your life. I want to help you find your true self and live the life you want to lead.

I have experience supporting individuals and couples dealing with depression, anxiety, the impacts of trauma, relationship distress, adjustment issues relating to family life transitions, as well as specialized training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and supporting individuals and couples as they transition to parenthood.
Our life experiences and social influences inform the ways that we cope, sometimes leading us in directions we do not desire and into ways of being in relationships that can be destructive. My belief is that at the heart of each and every human there are strengths and preferred narratives to be discovered and there is an innate ability to cultivate self-compassion, to heal from the past, to learn to communicate our needs and desires, and ultimately to create healthy relationships. I am passionate about supporting you in achieving lasting connection, joy, and fulfillment in your relationships.

My experiences working within the realm of Reproductive Medicine has given me the opportunity an advocate for the screening and treatment of perinatal and post partum mood and anxiety disorders.
"Perhaps strength doesn't reside in having never been broken but in the courage required to grow in the broken places" I believe that pursuing and seeking out help through therapy is an act of bravery. It is my privilege as a therapist to help guide individuals through difficult times in order to help them find meaning and resilience. My experience as both a nurse and a therapist gives me a unique open-minded perspective in empathetically addressing issues for clients in both short and long-term therapy.

I specialize in anxiety, stress, grief, and maternal mental health from pregnancy through postpartum into parenting.
You want to have it “all together” but deep down you’re struggling with anxiety and feeling disconnected and like you don’t know yourself anymore. You’re feeling stuck in the same cycle and overwhelmed with all of the decisions you have to make just to survive in life when you deserve to be thriving. When your days are overflowing with caring for others it feels impossible to find time to care for yourself. Life feels like a constant juggling act, trying to balance a bunch of responsibilities and demands all at once. Your days may feel chaotic and disorganized, with a never-ending to-do list that seems impossible to tackle.

My training includes issues throughout the perinatal period such as shifts in identity, postpartum mood and anxiety issues, and mother-daughter dynamics that impact women in early motherhood.
Psychotherapy is a deeply personal experience that can relieve anxiety and depression, and foster authentic connection and meaning in our lives. In my work for 20 years now as a psychologist and author, I remain committed and passionate about helping clients uncover early dynamics that still seem to interfere with securing the kind of relationships and positive feelings about ourselves that we all strive for. I often find myself in the role of gently reminding clients about the parts of themselves that have temporarily gone underground, and are vital to their creativity and well-being.

I believe being human is acknowledging that our lives often reflect a different reality than we envisioned for ourselves. This can be espeically true in the postpartum period. As a therapist for moms, I can say I have lived this experience for myself. My transition to becoming a mom included birth trauma, a birth injury, and postpartum depression. If you have ever thought to yourself, "This is not what I expected.", "Why am I struggling so much?", or "I'm not good enough", you are in the right place! Me too, friend.

I have specialized training in perinatal mental health from Postpartum Support International (PSI), and am working toward my Perinatal Mental Health Certificate (PMH-C).
If you’re here, you know that it is not easy to become or to be a parent. By embarking on this adventure, we open ourselves up to the possibility of joy, pain, excitement, loss, suffering, love, anxiety, exhaustion, fear, loneliness, uncertainty, and feeling unprepared along the way. Whatever your journey has been, you can probably relate to this ever-changing flow of emotions, and especially so in the reproductive period. For all that wonderful messiness, we need massive doses of support. We weren’t meant to do it alone. If support is what you need, you are in the right place.

This was never how I pictured myself postpartum, particularly as I had all the tools theoretically as a clinical social worker.
Standing in the shower, letting hot water pour over my tired body, I wanted to lengthen my alone time. I already heard from the monitor that the baby was stirring, and the dog was sniffing under the door and pacing in front of the bathroom. As my brain reviewed the endless to-do list, I felt guilt creeping in for “indulging” in extra seconds in the warm shower stream. Therapists may tell you a shower isn’t self-care, but part of your basic needs. But as a working mom, it was my only self care time. A need to maximize aka multi-task was ever-present and bordering feelings of inadequacy. Despite all my efforts, I was overwhelmed.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
