Are you exhausted from being hyper-independent, a perfectionist, workaholic, and feeling like you can’t rely on anyone else? I work with high achievers battling feelings of inadequacy, anxiety and overthinking. I use EMDR and IFS approaches to help you address anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment and relationship issues. I help my clients take control of their lives, uncover self-love, live authentically and find better balance. As a survivor of the Las Vegas shooting I know first hand what it takes to heal through unthinkable events. Trauma does not need to be a life sentence and healing is absolutely possible.

I truly believe we all have the resources within us to grow and heal. However, there are times we become "stuck" in life and overcome with fear or other factors. I am passionate in working with children and adults in helping them recognize deeper/underlying issues or past traumatic experiences that can impair a person's function each day in various ways. I specialize in anxiety, depression, PTSD, and complex trauma (Ie physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, DV, life adjustments, grief/loss). I am trained in EMDR, a research-based treatment that facilitates the brain's own capacity to heal.

My mission in life is to help others overcome hardship, heal, and find hope in their lives. If you are looking to build healthier familial and romantic relationships, I am able to help. I am trained to guide my clients in breaking down negative communication patterns, and increasing connection with their loved ones. This includes working with children, individuals, couples, and families. I also specialize in therapy for those experiencing grief or loss. Suffering a loss is often disorienting and traumatic; it can feel impossible to continue with daily tasks when you feel like you’re trapped in a fog. I am here to support you.

I specialize in working with children, adolescents, parents, and families. Play Therapy is my preferred modality as children communicate more freely using play, My professional experience includes helping children whose parents are involved in the process of divorce and I am trained in Co-Parenting, which is a specialization that addresses parenting issues that arise from divorce. Recognizing the significant impact that parental separation can have on a child’s well-being, I work closely with parents to facilitate healthy communication and co-parenting strategies to help foster emotional resilience for their children.

Relational issues arise when we stop feeling security and trust in our relationships, and feel emotionally disconnected and unable to communicate our needs clearly to one another. As a marriage and family therapist, I am guided by the idea that the more effectively dependent we are on each other, the more independent, courageous and adventurous we become. I also believe that the quality of our relationships can deeply impact our mental and physical wellness in general. Humans are bonding, relational beings who need to feel secure and loved in their close relationships. We need to know that we matter to our loved ones.

I specialize in helping adults in their 30s and 40s who want to heal their childhood wounds, which are getting in the way of experiencing more secure attachments in their intimate relationships. Growing up witnessing dysfunctional interactions in our family of origin does not equip us with the best tools to have healthy relationships as adults. Relationship distress can be so overwhelming that it can drain our joy, creativity, work productivity, and even our health.

I am Rebecca, a Licensed Psychologist with 9 years of experience. As a former teacher, I know that some of our most valuable lessons can, at first, look like mistakes. With practice and feedback, difficulties can become strengths. I believe that the best practices in psychology and neuroscience can be applied in a supportive and empowering way to help individuals understand and mitigate the causes of their distress. I also believe that each person has an inner wisdom and an unlimited capacity for growth and change. Sometimes, all it takes is a different perspective to help us see ourselves and our challenges in a new light.

The idea of perfection put forth on social media has caused many people to face unique challenges daily. Masking one's flaws while forming online friendships have led to low self-esteem and in turn, isolation and withdrawal from face-to-face social interactions. The pressure of perfection often leads to increased anxiety, social anxiety, depression, and lack of motivation to attend school. Parents often report concerns with their child's poor academic performance and their struggle to engage in day-to-day life; clinging to video games and online interactions. These behaviors impact family and can leave you feeling overwhelmed.

Quality therapy is not the fastest or most-marketed approach. Society loves to push the quick, the extreme, the “take this or do that!” But what if you tried different advice and proposed “fixes” and still feel unfulfilled? Even by therapists offering a popular or “gold standard” intervention? What do you actually need? In my journey as both a survivor and a psychologist, I’ve seen that the answer to this lies in the power of your own mind! I know, a hugely challenging task, but therapy from a fitting and experienced professional can definitely help!

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
