My specialties include using culturally-responsive evidence-based practices to help you address sociocultural and systemic challenges, depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, OCD, codependency, career and performance challenges, coping skill development, grief, near-death experiences, chronic stress, and men’s issues.
Are you feeling frustrated, confused, stressed, depressed, or lost? Are you working to create more meaning, fulfillment, and happiness in your life?  Living a human life means learning to live with the human condition. That means challenges with mortality, relationships, conflict, emotionality, suffering, and change, among others. Therapy can help you respond to life events that may be challenging and confusing, events you may not be equipped to address. It can support the development of insight and behavior change to navigate life challenges in novel ways.

I have worked with children, teenagers, adults and families on a variety of issues including depression, PTSD, ADHD, substance use, anxiety, suicide, sexuality and grief.
Working with children, teenagers, adults, and families has been my priority for the past decade in order to help them develop the skills they need to build healthy lives. My goal is to create a safe environment in which individuals feel comfortable expressing themselves openly and free of judgment. I believe in working as a team in order to help each person develop insight in themselves and their situation, while cultivating their strengths, and highlighting their resiliency. When needed, I involve parents, families, psychiatrists, and physicians in order to ensure collaboration to increase the client's support within treatment.

Life can feel overwhelming sometimes. We may find ourselves following an unexpected path, unsure how to discover our place in the world. It is difficult to navigate life’s challenges and I want you to know that you don’t have to do this all on your own. I will bring a compassionate, nonjudgmental and empathetic energy to our sessions, while understanding that we all may need some encouragement at times. Together, we can work on issues related to trauma, relationships with others and ourselves, life transitions and changes, depression, anxiety and many other aspects of life that may be impacting you.

Is your concern a relationship dilemma? A problem with a child? Substance abuse, anxiety or depression? Symptoms-physical, emotional, or social-are embedded in relationship processes in the family. The goal is to modify the process, which can lead to a reduction in symptoms. When one person in a relationship makes the decision to "show up" in a more deliberate, thoughtful way, the dynamic will change. Any motivated client can become that person. I will lend a hand in your effort through an understanding of relationships and how tension spreads through anxious systems, affecting groups and individuals.

Life is beautiful, but sometimes it can be overwhelming due to past or present traumas, relationship distresses, grief and loss, and lack of effective communication, leading to depression, anxiety, stress, and low self-esteem. However, your current circumstances and struggles do not determine your future. Instead, they may be stepping stones for a brighter and happier future.

Feeling a wide range of emotions is normal! Actually, feeling all of our emotions serves a function in life. However, when certain emotions take over our minds, we may feel distress, discomfort, or feel “stuck.” As your therapist, I won’t judge your emotions, thoughts, or behaviors, but rather partner with you to make them more manageable. I also like to focus on adding meaningful engagement into my client’s life. We will work together to explore what makes life meaningful and worth living for you.

I have been offering mental health services for close to twenty years and I have found it to be such an amazing tool that so many people can use for significant personal growth. I know it can feel lonely when we don't want to burden our loved ones with our pain, so by using therapy, we often experience the freedom of having a safe place to talk while also experiencing positive change. Please consider taking the next step with investing in yourself by reaching calling my office to schedule an appointment.

You want to appear like you have it "all together" but deep down are struggling to feel confident in who you are or to cope with challenging experiences in your past or present. You may be fed up with the overthinking, second guessing and anxiety getting in the way of living your best life. You never feel "good enough" & compare yourself to others. And you're ready for relief. You're ready to have meaningful relationships without your past getting in the way. You're ready to stop the choas in your mind. You're ready to feel confident. Most of all, you're ready to love yourself & be happy with OR without all the things.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
