I welcome working collaboratively with you to help build a deeper understanding and appreciation of yourself, to develop a capacity to witness your important and often traumatic past events, and to realize your potential for growth. As therapist, I attempt to provide a safe environment for you to be heard and believed as this process of discovering meaning in implicit memories unfolds. I believe that it is important that the therapeutic experience provides hope, safety and connection, allowing clients to build a sense of integrity in body, feelings and mind.

I applaud your willingness to take this first and courageous step. Making the decision to begin therapy can be extremely difficult but the result can be highly rewarding--and life changing. I provide therapy services for adolescents, adults, couples, and families struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, and many other life or relationship problems. Though I enjoy working with individuals of all ages, I have developed a passion and distinctive skill set for working with the college-aged/young adult population and their unique issues, finding that the work I am doing has not only been highly effective but also rewarding.

I have extensive experience in guiding people to return to their natural state of psychological health and well-being. This state of equilibrium never goes away; it only becomes obscured through our learned patterns of thinking. As a practitioner of Integrative Medicine, my approach is wellness-based rather than illness-focused. Listening to physical symptoms can be very essential to the healing process. Creating a safe comfortable space I can be your guide to mental wellness. As you re-establish healthy thinking, you can tap into your own natural wellness.

My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that everyone has the ability to heal and grow. I believe that, when we feel safe, heard, and vulnerable, we gain valuable insight into why things have hurt us the way they did, why change has been difficult, and what we need to do to start to change. I strive to create that safe and brave space for us. In that space, we can explore your identities and cultural influences, and I can supplement your growth with my life experience and evidence-based training. Together, we can help you reach your unique goals.

"What are the words you do not yet have? What do you need to say? There are so many silences to be broken.
It’s a blessing for you to tell your story; to reflect on life’s challenges and explore hopes and dreams; to find that safe place within to express life’s meaning; to talk of life’s journey with a sense of purpose. If these are the blessings you seek, tell your story. You are not alone. I would be blessed to listen. Sense the joy of life; experience the release of pain. Be blessed to recognize and experience control of your life.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
