Because I love working with couples, I also sought additional training in sexual dysfunction, anger management in relationships, and ways to improve communication in couples.
Hello! I'm currently offering video sessions for clients in California, Colorado, and Florida. Doing sessions via a secure and confidential website means you can have therapy from anywhere. I absolutely love my job as a therapist and enjoy being able to help others reach a high level of satisfaction in their careers and personal relationships. My approach is mostly collaborative-I believe in tailoring treatment plans for each individual with their input. My training started in medical family therapy and I have a strong background in treating anxiety, depression, addictions, and eating disorders.

Hi there, I'm Miranda, a licensed clinical social worker. I am a mother of four and have been in private practice for about five years. Before that, I worked in clinical settings, in criminal and family courts and shelters. Much of my experience has been with at-risk youth and victims of domestic violence so I mainly utilize a trauma-informed approach. However, I don't subscribe to any single theoretical approach, and employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic techniques based on each individual. I will also teach you the skills to help you contain any reactions or symptoms that come up while processing.

Sometimes our best life can feel out of reach. A part of us feels stuck in cognitive or relational patterns that served us at one time, but do not serve us well anymore. We want to make some changes, but we find ourselves stuck. Poet Mary Oliver asked the question, "What will you do with this one wild and precious life?" I'm here to listen as you figure out how you want to answer this question, and to witness the work you need to do to get there. Our best selves, living our best lives, are within reach.

My approach to therapy is warm and collaborative. I believe growth comes from enhancing our understanding of ourselves and learning to make choices that can lead us to greater freedom and lasting positive change. Removing symptoms, changing self-defeating patterns, improving self-esteem, working with our strengths, and developing healthy relationships are each a part of this meaningful process. As a Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor in the UCSD School of Medicine, I teach and supervise residents in the Psychiatry Residency Training Program

Anxiety is a major obstacle that can get in our way of living the life we want. While a certain amount of anxiety is normal for all persons, those with excessive anxiety may find themselves experiencing constant worry, doubt, and self criticism. Depression, substance abuse and relationship problems often follow. However, these problems are manageable. But first you will need to understand your beliefs, your motivations, and behavior. I will work together with you to help you feel safe by learning to manage your thoughts, using evidence-based therapies which will help you develop insight into your situation.

Life is full of unexpected turns and challenges, and you’ve been trying to push through the barriers on your own for a while now. You’ve sought out various ways to make yourself feel better temporarily, but haven’t found something that brings long-term relief. Sometimes, despite your great effort, those overwhelming feelings of loneliness, fear, and helplessness continue to persist. If you're struggling with emotional pain, you don't have to deal with it all alone. What you need may be a safe space where your difficult feelings can be worked through and your authentic self can be seen, understood, and accepted.

One of the most important ingredients in successful therapy is a good therapeutic fit. My approach is to provide an empathic, warm and supportive environment, and work collaboratively to identify and make sense of your unique struggles and particular obstacles. I work with couples, adolescents and adults and use both insight-oriented and skills-based approaches to find short and long-term solutions to intercept the patterns that are interfering with your personal growth. I also provide supervision and consultation to psychologists and psychotherapy trainees.

Let’s be honest. Being stuck in anxiety, fear, depression, and despair is very discouraging and frustrating. It feels awful, it limits you, makes you feel hopeless, and just creates suffering and conflict in your life. So, what can we do about it? We can ignore it and hope it goes away, read a bunch of self-help books, or maybe try that 5-step plan to happiness we read about late last night. Some of these things might work but sometimes we just need help from a caring therapist who really understands you and can help guide you to a healthier and happier you. I would be honored to help you live the life you've always imagined.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
