Just being human can be hard, and with all that is expected of us in this life, it can seem almost impossible at times. The external world can feel overwhelming and unsafe and our internal world can feel chaotic and just as unsafe. At the heart of any therapeutic approach is the attempt to find peace within so we can learn to be at peace with what is beyond our control. At Balanced Life Therapy Center, our clinicians are trained, each in their own preferred approach to healing, to support the inner world of their clients and help them get connected to the power they hold to move towards the life they desire.

The strongest person is the one who knows when to ask for help. Everyone struggles, but why do some people handle life's challenges so well? My goal is to help my clients have a happy and fulfilling life. What this means is clearly different from person to person. My aim is to identify the behaviors that are keeping this from happening, implement these changes, practice them in real life and moving on. I am a short term-solution focused therapist. The more you do outside of therapy, the faster you can achieve the changes you desire.

Are there challenges in your life that seem so overwhelming that it seems you can't deal with them? Have you tried to make changes in your life, but haven't been able to do it on your own? Congratulations on taking the first step towards feeling better! I have extensive training in helping overwhelmed, stressed, and anxious clients and couples. I make it my goal to really understand and empathize with the challenges you are facing, and always come from a non-judgmental and warm place. People want straight talk from a psychologist, not psychobabble. They don’t want a passive therapist who just listens. Nor do they want a know-it-all to tell them exactly what to do. They want a competent psychologist who gives real feedback about what he sees going on. They want someone with real life experience who can relate to their problems as a professional, a parent or a child. Before becoming a psychologist, Dr. Evans had experience serving in the Peace Corps, running a business, getting married and having children.

I believe relationships can bring so much meaning and value to our lives. Most people want a relationship where they can be open and honest with one other because they have trust, closeness, and security that creates a secure bond. The problem is, many relationships often feel isolating and tense because of unmet expectations, miscommunication, betrayals, and mistrust. It can be isolating and sad when you feel disconnected from your partner. I enjoy helping couples try and find their way back to one another. I also work with individuals who may be struggling to find their person and want to break unhealthy patterns.

I don't have an ideal client. I want to met people where they are at. If you've never had therapy before, it’s important to be aware we don’t start talking about the hard stuff. It can take 2-3 sessions for someone to feel comfortable enough to tell another person what they are struggling with. Therapists cannot read minds, but have studied human patterns of thoughts, feelings & actions. No one can truly know the exact consequences a person has experienced in their life. Regardless of the reason why someone is seeking therapy, there is no judgment, no criticism…just acceptance. People can heal & grow in this type of environment.

If you feel you are not living your best life, therapy can help identify what is holding you back and how to overcome these barriers so you can live a more fulfilling, happier life. Often it is adverse childhood experiences that have a lasting impact creating anxiety, mood disorders and adult relationship difficulties. Other times, it is recent life stressors that bring up feelings of sadness, inadequacy or anxiety. Therapy can help untangle the "whys" and, most importantly, provide evidence-based tools to move you from coping to living.

If you’re reading this, you’re having some sort of trouble. I help good people get through tough times. There are many ways to do counseling. You can think of me as a life coach who offers principles to help you solve personal and relational problems. And /or, I can be your therapist to help you process a history of hurts and help you get on with your life. I work with couples and individuals (children, teens and adults) in an atmosphere that is casual and relaxed. I use language and tools you can use now. No psychobabble. If we connect we're likely to do some good work. So I'm ready when you are.

Meeting with clients for years, I recognize that many find themselves trapped with shame. Shame causes intense emotional distresses such as depression and anxiety. Likewise, personal life struggles can also become entangled in it. Even talking to a therapist requires a lot of courage because of shame. When we feel stuck, self-criticism and self-doubt compound this feeling of inability. Therapy is not an easy process, and dealing with the discomfort will bring about self-validation and self-respect because of the limitations that shame brings us.

I am a Clinical Psychologist who has been in practice for 20 years. I use an integrative approach that borrows from many of the most powerful theories, including some newer innovative approaches and the ones that have been proven over decades. You should not wonder whether our work is helping - instead, it should be clear to you (and often the important people in your life) that you feel more comfortable, motivated, and content. Therapy helps people overcome challenges and find new meaning, and I am honored to help you on that path.
