I am a trauma-informed therapist certified in EMDR and Brainspotting therapy.
Have you tried talk therapy and still feel stuck or overwhelmed? Talk therapy can be helpful however there are other evidenced based therapies, such as EMDR, that can transform your life with lasting results that relieve you from the pain that you are experiencing by focusing on brain-body connection. I use a holistic, integrative approach to focus on the whole-person and address mind, body, spirit, as they are all inter-connected.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy and EMDR are the primary modalities I use to help clients meet their goals.
Life is difficult as it is especially when you are thrown curve balls along the way. It can be overwhelming to manage it on your own. I am here to help you process, understand, and change the way you view yourself, others and the world. I believe that changing the way you think can help change the way you feel ultimately changing your behaviors. While we can’t undo the past, we can work together to find hope and meaning in the present and future by challenging all roadblocks that are preventing you from healing. I provide a warm and safe environment and together we can create a treatment plan that fits you and your needs.

I am EMDR trained to help deal with trauma.
I love to see others be over-comers and feel privileged when I can be a part of that process. I recognize that one of God´s specialties is to "make a way" in the desert. Sometimes the desert is the parent-child relationship, a trauma in the life of the adult or the child, depression and anxiety, a learning or developmental difference, difficulty crossing cultures, etc. Sometimes our own difficulties with self esteem, boundaries, or trauma make day-to-day responsibilities difficult. The kids I worked with in Mexico for many years taught me a lot about overcoming trauma, regulating their emotions, etc. (They also taught me Spanish!)

I use talk therapy, IFS (internal family system/parts work), and EMDR to work with clients' internal worlds in order to help them navigate sex, gender, and intimacy issues.
Sex Therapist Certified by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). Do you struggle with being connected with parts of yourself and others? Perhaps different parts of you know how to get what you want, but something inside prevents you from making changes. Sex Therapy is a window into the mind, body, and spirit, allowing you to identify places in which healing needs to take place, and highlighting your deepest desires. Together, we’ll explore your past and present, create intentions for the future and set you up with skills in order to meet your goals.

I am trained in EMDR therapy, which is designed to reduce the emotional intensity attached to the disturbing memories through the use of eye movements or tapping, resulting in a reduction of symptomology.
Trauma, anxiety, and addiction can make you feel stuck. The most important step towards healing is to address the unresolved emotion inside you. Healing requires feelings. Acceptance slowly dissolves pain. When we function from the fear and scarring of our trauma, the cycles continue until we learn how to transmute that energy into love. I apply a Holistic approach that integrates physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual forms of well-being, addressing the “whole” self. Through a holistic framework tailored to your unique needs, the goal is to support you develop a deeper understanding of the self on all these levels.

Further, I have advanced training in three evidence-based models of psychotherapy ( emotionally focused therapy, internal family systems, and EMDR).
Acute and long-standing stress can trigger emotions, thoughts, and reactions that shape our sense of self and our relationships. If you find it increasingly difficult to cope with stressors, stay emotionally regulated, and connect to others, I can help. My approach to therapy is compassionate, culturally responsive, collaborative, and non-pathologizing. Further, I am informed by multiple evidence-based perspectives and believe that societal influences significantly contribute to the way people receive, process, and respond to stress, problems, trauma, and relationships.

As a family therapist for over twenty-five years, I combine various approaches to meet the individual needs of my clients. My style is collaborative and supportive and I'm passionate about what I do. I specialize in two unrelated populations: young people from age thirteen through their mid- twenties, and anyone suffering loss, especially the loss of a pet. Perhaps because I still have vivid memories of my young self, and because the animal-human bond is so strong, these topics have special meaning for me. Subspecialties include trauma and stress management including EMDR, couple's work, and parenting.

I provide EMDR therapy as well as several other therapeutic modalities to have each of my clients reach a level of success and satisfaction.
I have worked in several areas of mental health care and have truly found my purpose and passion in assisting those who struggle with trauma and/or addiction. I understand how trauma has been locked within the psyche and having an individual feel as though they are stuck within themselves. I understand that addiction was a solution to several problems at the time because it allowed relief but in reality it only masked the underlying issues. My goal for each of my clients is to have them recognize their own strengths and abilities so they may continue or begin to live meaningful lives.

I'll help you find empowerment in your life, using EMDR, mindfulness and other evidence based approaches.
You want to feel content and self-assured but inside you are struggling with second guessing yourself or feeling stuck, feeling out of control and powerless. Maybe you are feeling that something, deep down, could be wrong with you. Or maybe you are frustrated, resentful and angry at being misunderstood or unappreciated. Do you feel like no matter how hard you try to be the person you are “supposed to be” it’s never enough? You might feel like giving up because you are tired of trying to improve your life, but keep repeating the patterns that make you feel like you will never measure up.

As an EMDR-trained therapist, I am passionate about working with trauma survivors.
Distressing thoughts and memories can keep us feeling like we are stranded in the past. Every time we have tried to dig ourselves out, shame, guilt, and overwhelming thoughts keep us feeling stuck. These feelings and thoughts can feel so isolating and exhausting. Traumatic experiences can have a detrimental impact on how individuals cope with stress and regulate emotions. I understand that at various times in our lives we endure situations that can cause distress, leading to unhealthy behaviors and patterns. We can feel completely lost in figuring out how to proceed and it can feel daunting to reach out for support.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
