I hold a theoretical scaffolding of Jungian, psychodynamic and soul orientation in my work.
I believe in the healing force within each person and its natural inclination to arc towards wholeness and health. If we want it enough, have patience, clarity and support we can heal and feel freedom in life. Growth happens best in relationship and I am here to support you on your path, wherever that might be. I am anchored in Jungian psychology, Existentialism and AEDP/Somatic work. More importantly, I try to cultivate a sense of warmth, care, respect and curiosity in my work with clients. I work with clients experiencing: anxiety, depression, grief, relationship/family issues, PTSD, self-criticism and lack of meaning.

Combined elements of Jungian psychology, existentialism, positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and person-centered psychology: In search for the meaning of behaviors, feelings, events, the client is encouraged to recognize potential, strengthen self-efficacy, awareness of self, and optimize personal growth, purpose, and self-actualization.
From early development to late adulthood, we are in a continuous state of physiological, environmental, social, interpersonal, educational, and professional change. With change, tools are necessary to strengthen adversity, opportunity, autonomy, and life balance. All things considered, humans are social creatures and the need to connect with the self and others is essential for optimizing fulfillment in our lives.

I offer jungian-oriented Sandplay therapy for adults and children, which is a powerful modality for processing without the pressure of having to articulate through language.
I work with women and children, and the people who desire to enjoy healthy, loving relationships with them. Together we work to develop the insight and skills necessary to experience the pleasure of love. We may explore trauma, loss, grief, anger, repressed desire, lack of vitality, and current challenging relationships. My orientation is analytical, depth/archetypal, and feminist. With childen I offer an experience of Sand Play, where they can process feelings through playing in the sand (non verbally) or by just talking about what is present for them. Pets are a big help, and are always welcome in session.

I intend to build a rapport and a safe space where we can find a therapeutic approach for your care- as an individual.

People often seek therapy because something in their life is causing them pain and discomfort. I often work with individuals who "from the outside" look like they "have it all together," but on the inside, they feel like they are falling apart. When you permit yourself to ask for help to explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, you create more room for yourself. You don't have to hold everything so tightly. My therapeutic approach is warm, active ( I won't just sit and stare at you), and collaborative (therapy requires work and personal responsibility).

Finding and embracing an authentic self is one of the core missions of adult life. What too often corrupts this search, though, is the phenomenon of shame - a destructive force if there ever was one. Shame can contribute to substance use, depression, anxiety, interpersonal struggles, poor health outcomes, maladaptive trauma responses, and, at extremes, psychosis and suicidal ideation. Such maladies, when approached in the context of a compassionate and trusting therapeutic relationship, can be transformed into signs pointing the way toward a meaningful and fulfilling sense of self.

In addition to being a Marriage and Family Therapist for thirty-plus years, I have raised three kids, been worked over by a two-year-old, and survived their teenage years. I fell in love with my Grandson, forgot how to say no, but he grew up in spite of me anyway. Life throws all kinds of fastballs at us sometimes and I am here to help. You are not alone. I generally work with clients who are seeking help, safety, and understanding of their current situation.

Insight Care Counseling: The beauty of this -our shared life’s journey- is that we can aspire to embody its greatest gifts -love, fulfillment, clarity and peace. And yet, at times, we encounter challenges and changes that bring forth feelings of stress, depression, anxiety -or numbness and disorientation. And it is often at these junctures that psychotherapy can help; for in essence, the therapeutic journey is about finding richness even while in the land of disenchantment … and healing even while walking through pain.

Through the unique connection of therapy you can learn to balance acceptance and change. By identifying self protective behaviors and defenses you can understand their origins, purpose, and how they may now be causing more suffering than protection. The symptoms of these barriers manifest as depression, anxiety, addiction, relational conflict, substance abuse, loneliness and physical illness. You can learn to challenge and release these old beliefs and discover new ways of relating to yourself and others. Through the balancing process of acceptance versus change you can develop new understanding that promotes healing and growth.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
