Major life transitions such as college, career, marriage, parenting, work-family balance or empty nesting can bring upon anxiety, depression and increased conflict.
I have designed a practice to be responsive to your contemporary needs in your life - through VIRTUAL interactive therapy appointments that effectively utilize the natural setting you are in. I have found that therapy can be even more useful by meeting you in the context you are in. Meeting you while you are parenting can better tackle your parenting goals. Mind-body health goals can be achieved even better when we use therapy virtually while you’re on a walk. Teaching you to take valuable breaks in your day, is a therapy approach that can be even more helpful as you reset from your office. This is not your average teletherapy.

I can help you through marriage and parenting concerns.
Meeting a stranger, and sharing your life isn't easy. Trusting relationships take time-- even with a professional therapist. I have tried to create an atmosphere that will give you a safe and relaxing place where you can share your hopes, failures, struggles and goals without judgement. The years have a way of tangling us in bonds while the process takes work--healing and change can happen!

Life sometimes throws us a curve ball. Daily life struggles and stress that we have normally handled with relative ease can suddenly seem overwhelming. Too much stress and the inability to handle it properly can begin to undermine our potential to enjoy our work and to care for ourselves and others. Finances, parenting, relationships, school, care taking, health concerns, and loss can be stressful aspects of life. When we begin to internalize these external stressors it can lead to depression, anxiety, anger, addiction, poor health, phsysical/emotional exhaustion and relationship problems.

As a previous nurse assistant, teacher (toddler-12th grade) and childcare director, I have spent over a decade immersed in hands-on research to better study effective evidence based approaches for treating children and their support systems. I’ve been practicing psychology in a variety of settings for nearly 20 years now. Currently, I split my time between my position at Dr. Nate Psych and my secondary role as a pediatric and adolescent specialist at The Weichman Clinic, a multidisciplinary mental health clinic located within Hoag Hospital of Newport Beach. I started my own clinic as a result of my lifelong pursuit for helping children, adults, and families manage their mental health struggles in order to live a more fulfilling life. At Dr. Nate Psych, I provide a variety of therapeutic services intended for children, individuals, and families of all types.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
