Offering a relaxed & calm space, I utilize a relationally-focused, humanistic approach in my work with adults, elderly, kids/teens, who struggle with mood disorders, divorce, grief, stage of life adjustments, and self-esteem.
Sometimes, life breaks your heart, and you don’t recognize yourself anymore. You’re suddenly feeling lost, frustrated, dissatisfied, and tired of feeling unnoticed or unappreciated. You try your best to not crumble by holding it together, but the pressure to be “strong” or “perfect” prevents you from living life authentically and peacefully. With so much falling on your shoulders lately, you’re probably needing time/space to deal with your stress and sort through the disappointments and loss to find a way back to yourself. You want to feel better, you’re ready to talk, and you’re eager to set yourself free from what ails you.

The therapy I practice combines Motivational Interviewing (which allows individuals to identify "their own" need for change), Humanistic Therapy ( an approach which emphasizes acceptance and understanding so that individuals can share their deepest most painful struggles) and CBT (identifying and replacing unhelpful thinking and behavior patterns that perpetuate problems).
The decision to begin therapy is often difficult. Having the right therapist will make all the difference. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 15 years of experience specializing in the treatment of adults and adolescents. If you are experiencing frustration or loneliness in your relationships or feeling more irritable and depressed in your life, therapy can help. It is helpful to gain a professional perspective and find solutions you may not have otherwise known were there. My personal style is warm and interactive. I use humor when appropriate to help you feel comfortable and create a caring space, without judgment. If you want someone to talk to please call me for a free 20 minute phone consultation, or write me an e-mail.

Self-exploration continues throughout our lives. Our efforts to find peace and self-fulfillment can be accomplished through introspection and processing. I employ a variety of therapy modalities that assist with the exploration process in a manner that feels comfortable and safe, leading to those moments of understanding and acceptance. Art and EMDR Therapy combined can assist with reaching a deeper level of self-awareness in a non-threatening manner, and also allows for reprocessing recent and past traumatic experiences. With a willingness towards self-awareness, both modalities can be utilized to achieve ideal adjustment.

Communicating effectively and fostering positive relationships can be challenging, especially with those we love the most. Sometimes we see patterns we would like to change but are not sure where to start. When you’re dedicated to making a relationship work and are open to shifting your communication styles, anything is possible. Everyone communicates differently and every relationship takes work. Being equipped with the tools to positively express yourself can, not only, improve your relationships but will help build the confidence to interact with the world in a way that honors your boundaries and respects those of others.

Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers and their lives. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I believe it shouldnʼt be so hard to live a better life.

Are you stressed out or overwhelmed? Is setting boundaries with people scary or even impossible? Are you anxious, self-doubting, or feeling lost? Maybe you're stuck on mistakes from the past or fixating on fear of your future. Or you struggle to say no to people because you're afraid of rejection or criticism or abandonment. Perhaps you're just exhausted with all of it, balancing everything nonstop for everyone else and yourself. Maybe you've forgotten how to be..you? You try to do it all but your confidence is lacking and you're feeling guilty over everything. You just need it to be...easier. Life wasn't supposed to be so hard.

For more than two decades, I have made a commitment in the professional realm to understand the human condition. What I have learned is that we are unique yet unifying and vast yet reachable. It is my passion to take a journey with you and learn about what makes you who you are and how this interplays with the world and relationships around you. Everyone has a story. If you don't know yours, then we'll write it together. Emotional success often means life success and is contingent on not just knowing your story but telling your story.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
