My approach to psychotherapy is based on a relational model. I have found this model to be necessary for permanent change. How people relate to others is formed in the relationship patterns they experienced as a child. We spend years learning how to behave in certain ways, and it can take some time and effort to learn new ways to interact with others. Further, for lasting change, we must experience new ways of interacting with others; in short, a therapist. If you have questions about how my approach to therapy might be helpful to you, please contact me. Thanks.

I have experience working with clients from adolescence through adulthood as individuals, families and couples.
Therapy is an important step in a person's life, one that takes courage, awareness and careful thought. As a practicing psychotherapist for the last 15 years, I find it a privilege and honor to work with clients as they grow and learn about themselves and their lives. I believe it can be a wonderful opportunity to explore and move towards what is meaningful to you in your life. I also believe firmly that the therapist-client relationship is an important aspect in allowing for effective change and I strive to provide a warm, supportive and trusting environment throughout the process.

Do you want to have a great relationship with your partner, friends, or family, but you find yourself stuck in the same cycle of conflict? Are you battling substance abuse or an addiction that feels like it's ruining your life? Or, do you feel so weighed down by insecurity, worry, or hopelessness that you don't know how to start to make things better? Sometimes we come to a crossroads and are unsure which direction to take. We reach out for guidance, for peace, for self-love. I believe every person has the strength within them to seek this out a functional, fulfilling life.

I utilize a variety of strategies as I work with adolescents, adults, and couples.
My hope is that you leave therapy with a new sense of vitality, feeling empowered with a sense of congruency. I want you have an increased awareness and understanding about yourself and feel more interpersonally connected. I will strive to know who you are and how you see the world while we collaborate and work toward healing. We will focus on your emotional experience, honor your multiple identities, be in the moment, learn new skills, and help you "sit in the struggle." Therapy is a brave endeavor, and I will do my best to support this journey.

I’m the type of therapist who enjoys taking on the complexity of life, emotions, and relationships. I help individuals and couples who find themselves in a place in life where so much seems to be going right, but stress or insecurities may be taking big toll. On the outside it may seem like you have it all together, but what others might not see is the immense pressure or emotional distress that has been building up beneath the surface. It might feel like we should be able to figure it all out on our own, but even the most successful, self-sufficient people need support working through life's challenges.

I deeply value the relationship between therapist and client; when that relationship is strong, therapy can be life-changing.
My therapy style is warm, practical, and nonjudgmental. I have found that leading with authenticity and reserving judgment is key to building a safe, therapeutic relationship that will be the foundation for our work together. I prioritize your individual perspective and experiences and tailor our sessions to serve both your overarching goals and your needs in the moment. My approach to therapy is rooted in traditional psychodynamic practice while incorporating skills specifically targeted at supporting you in reaching your goals.

Do you feel you tried your best to resolve your problems in vain? Do you feel stuck in your efforts to make your relationship work? Therapy may seem unnatural -you are hiring a stranger to look into your personal problems. However, when everything else fails, it is a smart decision to seek external help and use accumulated wisdom and professional knowledge which may provide you with new perspectives and insights. My approach to therapy is to discover untapped resources and strengths within your relationships and yourself to help you find solutions for your problems.

" This means that I help clients move from a "blame" stance to an understanding that people in relationship share responsibility for outcomes.
Most of us have goals we want to accomplish. Sometimes, we lose sight of these goals and seek a compass with which to guide ourselves. I strongly believe my task is to provide a safe place for you to do the work to achieve your goals. I've also become passionate about working with clients as they move from one stage of life to another. I believe a key to happiness is mindful connection to self, others, spirituality, the community, and the world. I provide feedback.

I've worked with teens, adults, couples and families for over 25 years.
As a therapist, I believe simply in a person's ability to change whether it is drawing on the strengths one already has or stepping into the fear and excitement of new discovery. My role is to offer you a safe and respectful place where I acknowledge you, provide compassion for where you have been and support for where you will go. Therapy is a unique relationship built on trust. While I will cheerlead with you, I will also provide a mirror for you to find your own truth and that requires honest engagement and exploration of self. Life can be a challenge and if you are wanting to explore purpose and joy, I invite you to my practice.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
