I understand the fear, anxiety, hopelessness, and discouragement of repeating the same cycle over and over again. Drinking too much and embarrassing or humiliating yourself often feels like it is damaging your soul. You keep trying to make changes but don't feel like you can let yourself down anymore. It's time to break this vicious cycle and you don't have to do it alone. I have been helping good people just like you make positive changes with their substance use for over a decade. You can break free and give yourself and your family the life you deserve. Stop letting substances hold you back from achieving your potential.

We want to be seen. We want to be heard. And most importantly we want to be loved and accepted. This is universal. However sometimes we lose our way; experience failure, depression, rejection, trauma, addiction, grief, anxiety, relationship difficulties...myriad things can keep us from our own personal success and my goal is to help my clients identity these barriers, embrace them, and work through them. The life we want is often within reach, but without healing, clarity or self-love can feel galaxies away. Let’s work collaboratively to identify what is getting in your way and what to do to build the life you want for yourself.

It is not easy to ask for help. But if you have come this far you are doing the right thing. What ever substance or behavior has become a problem for you, recognizing your problem and asking for help is the important first step. If you are the one with the primary problem, or if you are a family member looking for some encouragement and guidance, call me or e-mail me if you think I can be helpful to you.

Do you always feel on edge? Did something traumatic happen? Trauma is a disruption to the nervous system that often creates patterns and loops that extend into many areas of a person's life. It can affect our bodies, our minds and the way we relate to other people. Sometimes the way people survive their trauma brings them more pain, adds to the chaos, and reinforces negative beliefs that perpetuate the cycle as well as causing other mental health issues grow- such as depression and anxiety. I work with people of various cultures, sexual orientations, and gender identities and know that trauma is non-discriminatory.

Wherever you may be in life, my goal is to provide you with a safe, non-judgmental, and inclusive space to explore, learn, process, heal, and thrive. I'll help you accept yourself as you are. Be messy, complicated, worried, angry, and show up anyway! I'll help you find the space that feels most comfortable to you no matter what you've been through. We'll clarify your goals and values and look toward a new perspective and healthy narrative, so you can nurture the feelings that are aligned with your well-being and not those that keep you stuck. With commitment and focus, you'll get to a deeper sense of self-compassion and fulfillment.

What do you want? What are you doing to get it? Is it working, and if not, what can you do differently? Your personal goals for therapy, once defined, will be at the heart of our work together. I'll support you in applying your strengths, deepening your sense of connection to yourself and those you love, and finding healthy ways to relate to negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Suffering is part of the human condition, but together, we can learn to respond to it skillfully. Slowing down, healing and integrating life experiences will be our focus!

Transitional Experiences happen! Kids' families become disjointed from divorce. Tweens become Teens. Individuals in their early 20's wonder what the next step is "for them". 30-somethings sometime face life-path decisions, maybe even boredom? Beloved pets or family members pass away. Married people are suddenly "single-again". the mid-life 50's often come with health issues that completely throw people for a loop! The 60+ often involve taking care of aging parents or are facing the death experience themselves! Grandparents sometimes find themselves raising their children's children! What is going ON?

Do doubt, worry, fear, judgment and isolation plague your thoughts? Does it feel like family/friends do not understand your choices? Are you struggling to see a way through grief and loss? Does the burden of infertility feel hopeless? Are you frustrated with God and your faith walk? Are you attempting to navigate the community of being a loved on an incarcerated individual. I believe we all have a story to tell and sometimes we need guidance to move between the chapters of life.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
