Do you feel there should be more to life than this? Do you find yourself yearning for more? Has day-to-day life left you feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and unfulfilled? You are not alone. Over the past few years, people have endured many transitions which have left them feeling exhausted, disconnected, and searching for more. By not facing these feelings, you may find yourself in a never-ending cycle of feeling stuck. I believe that we can find meaning in each of these difficulties and create a stronger relationship with our self, resulting in a more balanced life.

Hi everyone. I'm an analytically-trained psychiatrist with a background in family medical practice and also in Buddhism. At this point my practice is adult psychotherapy and I am no longer treating patients who need medication, nor do I treat children. Although I'm trained in psychoanalytic therapy, my approach varies according to individual needs. I see depressed or anxious patients , those struggling with losses, stress, life events, or in their relationships and other issues as well. I have a particular interest in those with severe depression. I also offer individual training in psychodynamics to adult therapists.

I have worked in the field of mental health/social work for over 22+ years providing various therapeutic interventions. I believe that finding balance in life is important for overall health: mind, body & spirit. I practice mindfulness daily within my own life from a faith-based approach. Life is a journey that we experience moment to moment. My role as a faith-based therapist is to help guide my clients to learn to be present in the moment, to work towards closing the chapter/s on past moments which cause imbalances and to learn to find connection to their faith values to live out their life purpose.

In the 35 years I have treated people suffering from eating disorders I have witnessed many reclaim their lives from ED and live the life they were meant to have. The path to your recovery can be steep and full of obstacles. You might feel like you can't take another step or the obstacles are too large. I can assure you that you will not walk this path alone. You will be given guidance, comfort and motivation to keep you moving toward recovery. Don't let another day go by trapped by your eating disorder.

I serve clients who are in distress and need someone to be with them on their journey, whether they are ready to change or simply considering it. Ideally, clients want to find solutions to their issues that fit their lives and values, and that are sustainable in their given circumstances. My goal is to help clients find these solutions by drawing on their own inner strengths.

Struggling to show up physically, emotionally, and socially at school or work? Overwhelmed with the thought that things may never get better? Or with the thought, "I'm better off alone?" Many have been here and have had similar thoughts including me. But if my 25+ years of working with youth, young adults, and families have taught me anything, it’s the incredible ability of a healing connection to create change, even when things are looking bleak. No matter where you find yourself, positive change is possible. It’s my belief that honesty, transparency and open conversation can pave the way to a better tomorrow.

I became a therapist because I want to support people as they work to become their truest selves. Change and growth are possible for everyone, no matter what the circumstances are. You are not alone, and there is nothing wrong with you. Whether you have experienced trauma, as many of us have, or whether you simply want to better understand yourself, therapy is an effective tool to get where you want to go.

Couple therapy works differently for everyone. Is couples therapy appropriate, and if so, where do you begin? Couples can wait weeks to see a therapist who may be a mismatch for their situation. Couples who could benefit from couples therapy benefit most when they have a clearer picture of what to address and the type of therapist to see. How do you improve your relationship when you don’t know where to start or if it is worth the effort? This is how.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
