My practice's focus is children's mental health. My various experiences in child welfare and children’s mental health have led me to realize the unique needs of this population. I have worked with children suffering from depression, anxiety, behavioral issues, trauma responses, family conflict, and situational issues. Although I work with children of all ages, I do specialize in working with very young children, ages 0-5, and have specialized training in various types of play therapy. I work with each of my clients and their families to create a tailored treatment plan that best addresses their needs.

Hi! I’m Sim and I’ve been in the field of psychology for over 10 years. I understand that the path to mental wellness can be a challenging one. However, I also believe that it is attainable. Mental well-being is a journey, not a destination and I’ve assisted many clients on that journey. I have experience with both adults and adolescents, and I utilize a variety of strategies including cognitive-behavioral techniques, client-centered work, solution-focused therapy, and relational/psychodynamic techniques.

Too busy to take mental stock of what’s really going on? Over functioning tends to be culturally valued, but at what cost? Emotional bandwidth maxed out? Leaving you not as present as you’d like to be for yourself, your family, and your friends? Past experiences intruding on your here-and-now? Mental, emotional, and physical energies trying to work through trauma, seemingly stuck on playback loop? Feeling stuck in a rut? Planful problem solving, building motivation for change and action- slow and steady.

Therapy is all about growing, healing, changing or discarding something that's no longer serving your highest good. Through this process, my clients often develop a new clarity and meaning about their life, and its context. I don't believe our struggles define us; they just make us human. And through our humanity, we can find compassion for ourselves and others.

I take a holistic approach to grief.
If you have lost a loved one and are grieving I'm sorry that you have to read this. If you have survived a loved ones suicide I"m sorry for the pain you are feeling. Many people will tell you to "get over it" or move on with life. It's a great deal more complex than that. You don't need to be fixed: you need to be heard. If you have embarked on a new phase of your life and are struggling to say goodbye to the old chances are you don't need to be fixed you need to have support. Life transitions are difficult and they come in many forms. Death and Faith transitions are just two of these. Grief and loss affects so many things.

As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I work with clients of all ages who need help and support in the areas of stress management, relationship discord, parenting, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, and adjustment to life transitions, such as divorce, the diagnosis of a serious illness, and empty nest.
To be heard and understood is one of our most basic, fundamental human needs. Losses, life transitions, relationships, and even extended periods of stress can cause us to feel confused, overwhelmed, and even hopeless. You are not alone if you have found yourself struggling in any of these areas. My primary goal is to welcome you into a safe and collaborative space where personal growth can be fostered, and hope can begin.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
