Having anxiety can cause feelings of being out of control. Depression can cause almost physical pain. Sometimes, to feel more in control or less pain, we do things that we think are helping. But, is it? The heaviness of trauma can be frightening, frustrating, and even lonely! Everyone has a right to be heard and feel comfortable within their own space. I'm an LGBTQIA+ therapist, with an eclectic, holistic therapeutic perspective. I consider YOU to be an expert in your life and growth. No one knows you better than yourself. Sometimes, we all just need a little guidance.

I also utilize EMDR when working with those who have experienced trauma.
As a therapist, the heart of my work is to help you create healthy, more fulfilling relationships. Because we are relational beings, our lives are profoundly influenced by the quality of our relationships. At times, we may need to repair a broken relationship, let go of a harmful relationship, or manage a problematic relationship in a healthier way. I come alongside couples, families, and individuals to bring health and healing to relationships with key people in their lives - spouses, parents, children, friends, work colleagues, or even your relationship to yourself.

I have been trained in Trauma Focus Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), which is an evidenced based practice.
Due to current events around COVID 19 I am offering Telehealth sessions. My passion to work with people started when I was placed into foster care at 15. It was during this time I realized how life experiences can change and drive our moods and behaviors. Trauma impacts and influences everyone and can alter the way we perceive and interact with people and the world. I will empower my client's to address their past traumatic events and begin to heal themselves through therapy. I believe that everyone has resilience within them and with the right support, client's are able to take back control of their lives.

My approach to therapy is person centered, trauma focused, and psychodynamic, with an emphasis on the therapeutic relationship as a key component for client change.
Navigating the mental health system is challenging. I believe therapy should be a space to feel safe and heard regardless of your life experiences, and that your culture and identity are important to honor and integrate into therapy.

I have ample clinical experience in providing therapy to those who have experienced trauma, with a specialty in individuals who serve in the military and public safety.
You do not need to have a mental health disorder to seek therapy. Sometimes we just need someone to listen and provide extra support through life transitions and challenges. I'm pleased to be that person for you in your life. Everyone suffers from life's struggles, but healing begins through connections to both ourselves and the people in our lives. We all are resilient and have the aptitude to feel peace and acceptance with relationships and within.

Do you have a history of trauma or stressful life events? Are you feeling stuck, anxious, angry, or overwhelmed? Sometimes we struggle to be the type of employee, partner, or parent we hope to be. Many of my clients tell me they are having a hard time feeling safe, confident, calm and joyful in their life. They find themselves not fully present or able to enjoy the positive moments and connections in life. If you have been feeling this way, it could relate to trauma or life stress. If you have experienced grief, losses, or a traumatic experience, we can develop a coping plan and begin specialty therapies to help.

Engaging with persons experiencing anxiety, depressive spectrum symptoms, substance and trauma problems, marital/relational issues, as well as severe personality and severe mental illness disorders, have enabled me to be more personal and unique in my approach.
Seeking help in times of inner battles takes great courage. I respect and admire those who come to me for support, as you are the bravest types of people. I am driven to ensure that my clients feel a sense of belonging and understanding, allowing them to unload the weight they carry. Judgment and indifference have no place in my space. There is only healing, reparation, and reconciliation.

I specialize in trauma, anxiety/depression, & communication patterns.
Here you will find a compassionate & authentic space in which you learn to more deeply connect with yourself (and others), so you can finally discover what's behind your typical “knee-jerk reactions” & why your “go to” coping strategies seem to cause more distress than the original problems! Then we'll make meaningful shifts to uncover new and healthier ways to approach life and relationships. Clients often come to me for help with a broad range of concerns, like: trauma, anxiety, depression, pain, existential malaise, creative blocks, infertility challenges, grief, & family/relationship drama and communication difficulties.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
