I also work with concerns specific to the LGBTQ+ community.
Carl Jung, who helped lay the groundwork for modern-day psychotherapy once stated, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” Entering into therapy is an opportunity to examine our deep-rooted thoughts, emotions and behaviors that compromise our sense of self. I look forward to helping you on this journey.

Are you tired of traditional talk therapy? Overwhelmed with feelings of anxiety, or fear and stress? Maybe you feel like you've already done "so much work on yourself" and yet you still engage in some self-defeating patterns. This may show up in dating the same dysfunctional type of person, or acting out childhood patterns at work, overworking to please your boss without being recognized. You may lack patience or sometimes get impatient with your partner/children, the same way your parents were with you. Or maybe you shut down when you need to speak up, since many of us were taught to be "good little girls and boys". I can help.

the gaytherapycenter.
I founded the Gay Therapy Center in 2015 because I believe in the healing power of LGBTQ people working with LGBTQ therapists. It's very important in therapy to know for sure that your therapist really "gets" you. At GTC, we’re LGBTQ therapists for LGBTQ people. We've now grown to become the largest private LGBTQ therapy provider in the country with therapists in DC, NYC, SF, LA, and online. We personally match you to the therapist we think will be particularly good for you! You won’t have to deal with waiting lists, sifting through profiles, or matching by algorithms.

I have eight years of experience running therapy groups, ranging in topics from addiction to LGBT issues.
I believe in an approach to psychotherapy that is empathetic, collaborative and tailored to an individual's unique needs, where you feel understood from the first meeting. My approach recognizes the importance of the relationship between us, where therapy is an opportunity to make changes in our relationships by working within one in a therapeutic environment where you feel respected and supported. Life can be painful and challenging; my goal is to provide a space that feels safe and non-judgmental in order to experiment with new ways of thinking, gain insight, and have a happier, healthier, and fuller life.

As an trans+ queer femme, I am passionate about interdependence and community psych. I believe that the societal structures inherent in our 'independence' focused U.S. culture harms all of us, creating fixed binaries and making asking for and receiving help difficult. We were never meant to do any of this alone, and resourcing folx (in a variety of ways) is at the root of all of my work. 'In the room,' I genuinely care about helping people connect to therapy work in a way that is meaningful to them, noting that this can look a little different person to person and always exists in your own cultural context.

I see clients of all ages as well as couples, and my specialties are LGBT+ affirmative therapy, grief work, and working with neurodivergent populations (Autistic & ADHD).
You are already taking the first step on a transformative journey by advocating for yourself and looking into therapy! Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, relationship stress, PTSD, or want to gain a better insight to your patterns and emotions, therapy can bring you closer to coming home to your authentic self and living the life you want. There is a proverb that states if you want to go fast go alone, but to go far, you must go together. Let’s go together to find the right pathways out of the woods as we untangle your mental knots, let go of what is no longer serving you, and help you write your own narrative.

I am experienced in treating trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction and LGBT-related issues in both children and adults.
In Martial Arts training, we are often taught to redirect energy against us to our benefit. In reality, though, this is true in our daily lives. We cannot stop bad things from happening to us, but when they do, we can respond in a way that fosters growth and progress. In our work together, we will work collaboratively to help you process trauma, cope with life stress, and become the happiest version of your authentic self.

I identify as a gay, cisgender man and enjoy working with the chronic pain and queer communities.
I do this work because I genuinely love it. I am very honest and direct with clients and encourage openness from each of us. Therapy is an opportunity to slow down, get reacquainted with ourselves, and engage in vulnerability and playfulness that is too often not accessed. I offer a supportive, completely non-judgmental space where everything and anything is on the table (believe me, as therapists, we have heard it all). Trust and comfortability take time, and I respect clients’ pace and readiness to travel in difficult directions. I also promise to (compassionately) hold you accountable to promote growth and healing.

I specialize in working with the LGBTQ+/ queer community and also tend to work with individuals and partners of all ages and gender identities dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship concerns, grief, perfectionism, life transitions, and body image issues.
Welcome! My task as your therapist is to first provide a space where you’ll feel free to talk openly and be your truest self. Then, together, we will get to the bottom of whatever it is that may be contributing to the way you're feeling, and collaborate on ways you can begin to feel more at ease, empowered, and in alignment with your personal values, goals, and unique identity. I believe that we all hold the ability to manage life's challenges. To do this, we sometimes need a supportive guide. Enter therapy.

As a queer Filipino therapist, I believe that healing happens when we strengthen our relationship with ourselves and feel a sense of safety and connection with others.
You desire a life where you no longer have to mask your grief, queerness, or neurodivergence. Masking helped protect you from harm and rejection, yet you sense that you can't keep doing this much longer—you don't want to lose yourself. You feel pressured to hold it all together to continue being there for others even as you navigate your own worries about loss, change, and conflict. You want relief, yet the very idea of it overwhelms you with immense guilt and self-criticism. You're tired of feeling stuck and are looking for a way to continue caring for others while feeling connected to yourself, your needs, and your creativity.

I'm a trauma-informed LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist with specialized training in the exploration of gender, sexuality, and internalized oppression through an intersectional and culturally humble lens.
I'm a therapist because therapy saved my life. Through that lived experience, and with education and training, I help clients improve relationships with themselves and others, exploring a variety of topics like trauma, gender, people-pleasing, OCD, boundaries, and perfectionism. My clients are thoughtful folks who have done the best they can on their own and are looking for additional support. They seek to expand their perspective, to feel differently in the world, and want lasting change. Together we'll create that change, and I firmly believe in your inherent worth, power, and self-determination to facilitate the shift you seek.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
