Hi. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) which means I pretty much work with everybody, adults, teens, and families. I help people reduce anxiety and suffering by increasing their self-esteem. You may wonder, "what the heck is self-esteem? And how do I get it?" I know I did. Those who work with me are most often suffering from intense anxiety which they have learned to cope with using unsustainable behaviors such as oppositional behavior, eating disorders, isolation, and social avoidance. I especially work well with resolving parent- teen relations, those suffering from anxiety, and all types of eating disorders.

Sometimes life becomes overwhelming. Sometimes, tragedies and traumas mercilessly take their toll on us and leave us faced with the responsibility to pursue healing. I can be there for you - the person struggling to get out from under the cloud of stress, anxiety, depression, or feeling like you just aren't "good enough." I can be there for the parent who is struggling to manage or the child/ teen who has already endured scary and troubling challenges.

I consider myself to be a warm, compassionate, and humorous therapist, and I believe that my strengths are what have allowed me to fully connect with even the most challenging children and adolescent clients.
Are you feeling lost or like you have tried everything you can to support your child but they are still experiencing repeated meltdowns, depression, anxiety, impulsivity, aggression, defiance, or any other challenging behaviors? Then you have come to the right place to take the next steps for you and your family. Challenging behaviors are often the first signal that a child or adolescent needs more support and I can help guide you and your child toward finding strategies to support their well-being and increase their quality of life.

I am also experienced in treating adolescent trauma.
Vulnerability researcher and storyteller Brené Brown stated once that authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we are supposed to be, and instead, embracing who we are. Do you feel insecure, lost, or helpless? Do you ever feel immense pressure to be someone that you are not? Do you feel depressed or anxious about life’s journey or had a loss? Do you find yourself dwelling on the past or the future, preventing you from truly living a joyous life? Have you experienced trauma or loss and are struggling to move forward? I will help you understand yourself better so you can live a peaceful and happier life.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
