My goal is to help you uncover your true potential and find more helpful ways of living. I offer a collaborative and client-centered approach tailored to each of my clients individual needs and cultural backgrounds to help attain the personal growth you're striving for. Your life experiences and history contribute to your individual uniqueness. Sometimes it's helpful if your therapist has a base knowledge of aspects of your culture so you don't have to explain everything. Between cultural elements of the LGBTQ community, to intersectionality experiences for persons of color, my background and training aid in this understanding.

If you avoid the conflict to keep the peace you start a war inside yourself - Glennon Doyle. While this statement is SO true, many of us learned to avoid conflict as a way to protect ourselves from emotional pain. However, over time, that leads to the abandonment of your authentic self. The result may be mood difficulties, anxiety, depression, etc. I would be honored to help you unpack your story, find and heal the hurting places. Doing so empowers you to face and cope with conflict more effectively.

I work with women and children, and the desire to form and enjoy healthy, loving relationships. Together we develop the insight and skills necessary to experience the pleasure of love. We may explore trauma, loss, grief, anger, repressed desire, lack of vitality, and current challenging relationships. My orientation is analytical, depth/archetypal, and feminist. With teens and children I offer an experience of Sandplay, which allows processing big feelings through playing in the sand (without talking!) or with talking about whatever is present. Mothers and family pets can assist in this process, and are welcome in session.

Welcome! Does it feel like you’re struggling alone managing confusing feelings, persistent thoughts, and mental and physical exhaustion? Sometimes if feels like you’re up against the world with all the messages that often lead to depression, anxiety, and relational conflict and inequity. You’re doing the best you can as a person, friend, partner, parent, and employee. You might not feel seen or like you are the expert in your life. Yet you have the strength and skills to reclaim these messages, make them your own, and transform your life for the better. You are worthy and deserve the support you need to heal.

Receiving therapy should no longer be a taboo. Confiding in others and receiving professional help is something we all do in many facets of our life. Most of us see a doctor or go get our car fixed when we have issues with our physical health or a tire is loose, so why not see a therapist to help improve our mental health? Therapy can also be preventative. Why wait before issues feel too far out of reach?

Feminist Therapists
How does feminist therapy work?
Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.
What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?
Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.
How long does feminist therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.
Does feminist therapy work?
As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
