I specialize in treating Eating Disorders and most common co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, and Borderline Personality Disorder.
Hi there, I'm Marie! I am a licensed marriage and family therapist who treats individuals, adolescents, couples and families. I get that starting therapy can be intimidating and confusing; and because of that I like to first help an individual or family understand some of the basic concepts of therapy including appropriateness for different levels of care, insurance or fees, and its overall process to provide a sense of ease. My therapeutic approach can be described as collaborative, educational and solution-focused. I would like to help you create changes that would lead to the life you want and meet your authentic self.

I have worked with children, young adults, and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, traumatic experiences, relationship issues, parenthood, and more.
There are a vast number of reasons people seek out therapy: maybe you've been told, "It'll be good for you," maybe you've been feeling lost or stuck, or maybe you and your partner have been hitting the same wall over and over again and you don't know why. Whatever it is you are struggling with, you don't have to go through it alone. I'm here to provide the open space for you to be your most authentic self and to uncover whatever it may be that keeps you from believing you are capable and valuable enough to live the best version of your own life.

Your relationship is falling apart. Your life isn't where you want it to be. You don't like who you see in the mirror. You’re feeling anxious, depressed, lost…maybe angry. Or perhaps confused because no matter what you do, things tend to stay the same. You should have the job, romance, and life you want. You’ve done everything you’re “supposed” to so what happened? Why are you still stuck?

My hope for every individual or couple that I work with, is that the development of a stronger and freer sense of self will result in a wider range of choices that will lead to a more meaningful and fulfilling life and more satisfying relationships.

He also specializes in the treatment of depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse which often co-occur with trauma.
Michael D. Evans-Zepeda is a Psychologist in California who has been practicing since 2011. It takes vulnerability and courage to reach out, especially when we are in pain. This is accomplished through the exploration of how the past comes into the present moment and by working in the relational space between therapist and client.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
