I help new moms who are struggling with their transition to and through motherhood. At times, this looks like tools for managing postpartum depression, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts. Other times, this looks like support when the transition back to work doesn't look the way you expected, you feel like you are drowning in the tasks of motherhood and need more support, and when you just want to feel like yourself again, postpartum.

Starting therapy is a courageous gesture of hope and self-love. It can also be daunting to know where to begin. Whatever is bringing you to therapy right now- a break up, a loss of a loved one, the overwhelm of being highly sensitive in this world, the gut wrenching challenges of fertility struggles or pregnancy loss, the anticipation and transitions of pregnancy and postpartum- will be explored with openness, curiosity and compassion. We all struggle at times, but we are not meant to do it alone. Things really do start to feel lighter when we share what hurts.

I am very passionate about working with women on issues such as self-esteem, juggling parenting and career, relationship issues, postpartum depression, and with those who feel they are on a spiritual journey and need guidance.
I know sometimes life can be hard, and it is difficult to seek out help from someone. Often my clients come to me nervous or hesitant to open up, but they notice that after even meeting only one time they feel better. I do my best to make sure you feel comfortable, and that you feel like you have someone that really cares and understands what you are going through. You do not have to do go through it alone! I am here and I want to help you. I feel it is important to find someone you like, that is accessible and easy to get a hold when you need help. You can become a happier and healthier you!

I enjoy working with individuals interested and committed to discovering their own inherent capacity to live a more embodied, present, and expressive life. I am passionate about helping those who are struggling with a major life transition or have experienced trauma/loss regain a sense of well-being and ease in their life and personal relationships. My approach to healing is fundamentally relational and holistic, drawing heavily on mindfulness-based, somatic, and creative expression techniques. It is my therapeutic goal to provide a thoughtful, individualistic approach to each client. I believe that utilizing a variety of clinical skills allows me to fit an approach to each client rather fitting the client to a theoretical construct. I look forward to supporting and guiding you through this process as it can be a challenging as well as exciting journey.

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD and/or life changes like divorce or moving? Is your child or teen having a tough time and need support to get back on track? Are parenting challenges rising to the forefront? If so, you or your family members don't have to go it alone. I can help you or your family member learn tools to reduce anxiety/OCD, decrease depression, improve your mindset, and increase your ability to cope with the changes in your world. Sometimes it can be helpful to have someone outside of your family and friends to get support from, and a trained licensed therapist is the way to go.

I believe that our purpose here is to learn and grow. Challenges arise merely to help us break through our self-inflicted limitations. When we stop learning, we get stuck. When we're stuck, we stop growing. When we stop growing, we suffer. Unfortunately, most of us are living in this paradigm and aren't aware there is another option. I am passionate about helping my clients breakthrough into a much more fulfilling one, in which true inner freedom lives.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
