We all have the potential to lead a fulfilling life. Difficult challenges may keep us from reaching that potential though, and we can find ourselves stuck in repetitive cycles of suffering. I offer individual psychotherapy and neurofeedback with a focus on the alleviation of symptoms through inner transformation. With close attention to the unresolved emotional pain and nervous system dysregulation that drive symptoms, I help clients find resilience within the difficulties they face. I draw from time-tested and evidence-based approaches suited to each client's unique needs.

I help couples talk successfully about the difficult topics: anger management, sexual problems, money issues, parenting disagreements, past hurts that never got resolved, affairs, anxiety and depression issues, communication skills, avoiding talking about the issues, too much bickering, alcohol and substance issues, and relationship with family and in-laws.
Are you feeling emotionally distant from your partner? Or are things mostly okay, but there is that one topic that you two can never really talk about in a healthy way? Find out how to stop bickering and have the happier relationship you desire. Are you feeling unloved, distant, and lonely in your marriage? Feeling tension when he/she enters the room or when that certain topic comes up in conversation. If yes, it may mean you've missed earlier warning signs that something is off track in your marriage. There is help for marriages that are losing passion, connection and love. Contact me if you want to talk about your marriage.

In addition, I am the Founding Director for Kaiser Per manente's master's degree program which educates and trains therapists.
As hu mans, we are interested in living meaningful and connected lives. And sometimes we find ourselves overwhelmed, defeated, and confused about how to move forward. Our strategies may no longer be working for us or we face challenges we aren't sure how to navigate. Therapy can help us understand the ways we experience thoughts and emotions, develop effective ways of interacting with the world around us, and approach life more consistently with what we value. Having someone join us on our journey of growth and development can be a powerful experience particularly when they are trained to understand how people grow and change.

While my many years of experience in the field help inform my approach, we will work together to find ways to proceed that are best for you.
It can be so easy to drift off of course in life. Anxiety, depression, relationship problems, addictions - or just feeling lost - can be signs that a person has become disconnected from their deeper self. Therapy offers a supportive environment with an experienced guide to help navigate through distressing feelings and life difficulties to reconnect with oneself and important others, as well as to experience more meaning in one's daily life.

It is not easy being hu man. We all need support at different phases of our lives. The therapeutic process we will engage in is both supportive and transformative. Trauma and negative core beliefs become rewired in this deeply healing, embodied journey.

Over my 40+ years of meditation practice and recent therapy training, I have come to understand hu man experience as a single spectrum spanning physical, psychological and spiritual dimensions.
I am a licensed psychologist. I see both children and adults in my private practice. My work with children and adults utilizes our hu man ability to express ourselves through imagery in art, play, imagination, and dreams in ways that catalyzes healing and inner transformation. With children my work includes collateral sessions with their parents. With adults I also draw on my many years of spiritual practice, using such techniques as mindfulness and Yoga Nidra with my clients.

I believe how we perceive and response to daily interactions effects the relationship with ourselves and others. These moments, whether you are experiencing joy or discomfort are opportunities for personal growth; practicing kindness and compassion to all. I assist clients with learning and practicing mindfulness; paying attention to the present moment, enabling them to see clearly what is needed in the moment to make wise choices. These choices and actions will help them overcome the obstacles keeping them from the life they seek.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
