My experience and training span a broad range of other issues, and I regularly support clients with those, as well. My approach is both structured and flexible; I will suggest specific approaches for some concerns and keep our path more open-ended for others. I will also look to you for any preferences you have about the form our sessions take.

I specialize in helping those struggling with insomnia, anxiety, & trauma to have more balance in their lives & feel confident in who they are.
Though people might not guess, you often feel misunderstood and alone. It’s like you’re constantly running on fumes, and even keeping up with the most basic daily tasks is daunting. You’ve let friendships, relationships, routines, and anything beyond the bare minimum fall to the wayside because you’re focused on just surviving each day. Now, you’re not sure you can keep battling the stress, worry, & criticism that are constantly floating through your mind. You want things to change, but you’ve tried every possible solution to no avail. If you’re stressed, exhausted, & fed up—know that you don’t have to do this alone anymore.

You feel stuck but need more than just “talk” or a “safe space.” You’ve had great supportive talk therapy, but felt that you ultimately didn’t receive the tangible tools needed to address ANXIETY or OCD. I hope to provide clear insight and actionable steps to spark real change inside and outside the therapy room if intrusive worries or repetitive behaviors are overwhelming you - or if Anxiety is taking up time and energy from your life – or if sleepless nights are disrupting your days.

You might appear to have it all together and often receive praise for your dedication, work ethic, and high achievement but on the inside you are having a different experience. You feel anxious, lonely, overwhelmed, or struggling to feel present or satisfied with the life you are living. You want things to change but you also feel stuck. You value authentic relationships but at times feel disconnected from yourself and others. Maybe you identify as having a parent who is emotionally immature or you struggle with physical symptoms of IBS, migraines, or poor sleep.

Tired of feeling burned out? I am an expert in treating anxiety, trauma, addictions, sleep problems, but also qualified to evaluate a range of commonly co-occurring mental health conditions like depression. I do more than just talk therapy! At every visit, I teach evidenced-based skills that have been rigorously tested. I have developed a consultation style to therapy based on my experiences as a psychologist integrated in medical teams. This style allows me to consider treatment from multiple perspectives and this generally leads to earlier improvement, fewer overall visits, faster feedback and treatment ideas.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
