As a therapist with a background in the arts and improv, I bring a unique and creative approach to my work with adolescents, individuals, and couples. I use a narrative therapeutic approach integrated with EMDR, helping clients rewrite their stories and overcome past traumas. While therapy can be heavy at times, I believe in incorporating humor and lightness, along with mindfulness techniques, to defy the gravity of life's challenges. Together, we can create the life you want to be living.

I find EMDR, IFS, meditation, and somatic therapy to be the most effective, but I customize to each client.
Tired of searching? Feeling anxious, dissociated, or unmotivated? Maybe you're burned out from screens and the post-2020 world? Are you repeating patterns & wishing you could break the cycle? Maybe you want to dig more deeply into who you are. Sometimes we aren't sure what causes our distress, but we can sense we're not reaching our potential for health, happiness, or success. Even when we know the cause, change can still feel impossible. That's where I come in. My job is to listen, help you understand the root causes of your difficulties, break unwanted patterns, & teach you practical tools to help you change your life.

If you've become lost amongst obstacles on your journey, I'd like to help guide you to more happiness by offering suggestions, uncovering unwanted patterns, and leading you from the past to the present in order to heal and evolve, enhancing your happiness. Through changes in perceptions/attitudes and being willing to see situations with a new pair of glasses, you can reach your goals and evolve. My clients report that they enjoy my down-to-earth attitude and humor and my use of Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, TRM, meditation and yoga to treat mind-body symptoms. I work best with clients who are motivated to gain self-awareness and see patterns that are no longer serving them. I give homework between sessions in order to keep the continuity of healing working consistently. I have trained in EMDR and utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Ketamine as a means of accessing the Self.
I believe that we all have an innate healing power within us, and that developing a safe and caring relationship with a therapist can be a wonderful means toward enlivening this power. By going within, we can discover the agency to overcome any obstacle and can bring into being a renewed sense of hope, purpose, and a life of fulfillment. I come from a holistic, humanistic, and mindfulness/spiritually-oriented tradition who believe that a therapist is only as skilled as they are evolved, or self-actualized themselves. I specialize in trauma, dissociation, & complex post traumatic stress disorder.

With over 30 years of pastoral and professional counseling background, I offer an experienced and empathic approach to couples and individuals who are dealing with relational or personal challenges. Common issues that I work with include anxiety, unprocessed family of origin experiences, sexual trauma, addictions, infidelity, spiritual direction, and reconciliation. My intention as a therapist is to listen, to love and to learn my client's life story, with the hope of engaging individuals and couples into the reality of fulfilling futures, transformative change, and authentic, healthy relationships.

I am an EMDRIA-Certified EMDR therapist.
Seeking the support of a therapist can be a powerful step toward increasing self-awareness and the ability to change patterns that are no longer working. Change in therapy happens through a process of increased self-understanding, practicing new ways of engaging (with yourself, with others, with a particular problem or set of issues), and development and practice of coping strategies. I collaborate with my clients to identify and work toward treatment goals, using a combination of practical skills and deeper work to explore and repair root issues that may be contributing to current problems.

Transition, loss, and transformation may be universal, but everyone experiences these changes differently. Sometimes you may become overwhelmed -- like everything is too much, or you cannot connect with the person you were before. You may have become stuck in a difficult moment or are acting in ways that make things worse. You deserve to lead a life worth living. Therapy provides an opportunity to explore personal challenges and discover areas of personal growth inherent in these painful times. I welcome adolescents, adults, and couples who are looking for support and validation in the work of healing and self-empowerment.

I am also trained to utilize EMDR in the treatment of trauma.
My life is spinning out of control. I don’t know what to do with myself. How will I ever cope? Will this ever end? If you have ever experienced these thoughts or something similar, you are not alone. Whether finding a new job or settling down with a partner, sometimes life feels like a never-ending struggle. How you maneuver through life’s difficult circumstances can be emotionally and physically challenging. For example, moving to another country, city, or town (as I did when I migrated from London England to California) or the dramatic changes one experiences at the loss of a loved one.

My therapeutic approach mainly focuses on helping my clients identify their strengths to help alleviate anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am a firm believer that our childhood experiences contribute to our beliefs, behavioral patterns, and selecting a romantic partner. Therapy is a process! To allow ourselves to be intimate and vulnerable with someone about our experiences and trauma can be daunting. As a therapist, it is my goal to help validate, create a safe environment and help understand aspects of lived experiences.

In addition to the deeper work we do using modalities such as EMDR, together my clients and I also work on concrete coping skills to help bring about desired changes.
I believe that nobody should be resigned to a lifetime of suffering from anxiety, unresolved trauma, feeling lost, stuck, disconnected from your partner, or like your emotions are out of control. This strife can keep you from living a fulfilling life. I have seen so many clients become tremendously empowered, less emotionally reactive, and confident in their decision-making once they have a greater understanding of themselves, their histories, and their strengths. I'm passionate about helping you gain clarity, as once these changes are taking place, my clients begin enjoying more satisfying relationships with loved ones.

I am a fully trained EMDR therapist and I find great value in integrating EMDR into a practice that explores what keeps us trapped in relational patterns, learning to process old wounds, and freeing up space to lead you to the life you deserve to have.
In my practice, I am fascinated by the interplay between language and becoming. Are we just the stories we tell ourselves, or is there something more? I consider it an honor to sit with a client as we explore together the unknown of who they will become, breaking through versions of themselves that, for whatever reason, aren’t working for them, into a greater acceptance of what has been and a renewed curiosity of what can be.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
