Many people struggle to form and maintain healthy friendships and romantic relationships as adults or older adults, and are not sure how they can change their patterns.
I enjoy working with adults and older adults who are actively seeking healthier attachments and improvement in their relationships. My clients want to understand their early relationships and experiences in order to heal and move toward healthy attachments and interactions. These deeper changes can take more time and are longer lasting. I love working to help those who are looking for improved relationships, improved mood, and better quality of life.

I specialize working with adults, and older adults.
I strongly believe the power to change is inside each one of us. We have the power to change ourselves, which in turn can help shape our environments, and help us feel better. Change may not come easily, but with some hard work and help, we are able to achieve our fullest potential.

Many people in their 7th or 8th decade of life experience some concern about the possibility of Alzheimer's or other dementias, especially if there is a family history of dementia.
Are you dealing memory concerns as you age? Experiencing anxiety about the possibility that memory problems could lead to dementia? Do you want to have a clearer picture of what the memory issues mean and to be provided with specific helpful suggestions in a non-judgmental and caring environment. My style is relaxed but engaging in order to make each assessment or therapy session a meaningful experience. I bring to each meeting a perspective that is shaped not only by my education and training but also by a wide variety of experiences over seven decades of life.

Since 2009, I’ve worked with children, families, adults, and seniors, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is known for its effectiveness.
You might feel stuck or like your life is spiraling beyond your control. Perhaps you're struggling with anxiety or depression, and you've lost your spark. It might seem like you’re trapped in a monotonous routine—just going to work and coming home, living day to day with no joy in between. If this resonates with you, know that things can get better. You’re ready for change and you deserve to find happiness again.

In a frequently emotion-phobic world that is increasingly productivity-driven, often pushes "more is better" messaging and encourages endless striving, letting ourselves be human can be hard. Whether your current challenges are related to an acute stressor or tied to early attachment wounds, we all have the capacity to navigate hardships, heal, and emerge more resilient, connected and empowered in our lives. I enjoy working individually with adults and older adults on issues related to grief/loss, life-transitions, interpersonal stress, parenting, people pleasing, chronic illness, and more.

Because of personal experience, I have a strong desire to support those who may be caregivers of elderly relatives.
When you believe you "cannot get there from here," I believe you usually can. Sometimes the stress of life situations blocks your own native creativity and problem solving abilities. Let me assist you to brainstorm and come up with workable solutions to the situation which has caused you to seek therapy.

Welcome to my practice. I have been in practice since 2007 and have been featured on ABC, NBC, and KCAL as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

I have always been inquisitive by nature, and in particular, fascinated by the study of human behavior. Why do we do the things we do? What influences our thoughts and behaviors on both individualistic and collective levels? For me, being a therapist is like putting together the pieces of a puzzle, understanding how the pieces fit together and why. As a psychotherapist, I am of the belief that a strong therapeutic alliance, the human connection between therapist and client, and the sanctity of the space it creates, are integral to facilitating healing and growth throughout the therapeutic process.

I became a psychologist because I am interested in people's stories. What has happened? What is it that makes you so sad, so anxious, so stressed? I believe that working together we can make sense of your story and your pain, and find ways to alleviate it. I have been in practice in Pasadena for 27 years. I work with adults, adolescents and children.

My approach to therapy is simple and by looking for a therapist right now, you have already taken the first step toward a better, more fulfilling life and future, a life you actually want to live. My client base is multi-generational, multicultural, made up of individuals in career jobs, temp jobs, and people who work for themselves. I help clients to help themself, improving their lives by refining the tools they already have; clients learn to recognize, and understand the roots of their choices and how to make new choices to achieve the life they want to live.

Do you feel overwhelmed? Hopeless? Scared? Stuck? Do you feel like your world is spinning out of control? Are you taking care of a family member with a disability or illness? Do you wish the chaos would stop? What would it be like to not feel that way? Sometimes past hurts affect present relationships. Sometimes what you know in your head doesn't match what you feel in your heart. Sometimes multiple stressors can overwhelm you. And sometimes we just need a tune-up for our lives.

My therapeutic approach mainly focuses on helping my clients identify their strengths to help alleviate anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am a firm believer that our childhood experiences contribute to our beliefs, behavioral patterns, and selecting a romantic partner. Therapy is a process! To allow ourselves to be intimate and vulnerable with someone about our experiences and trauma can be daunting. As a therapist, it is my goal to help validate, create a safe environment and help understand aspects of lived experiences.

Geriatric and Seniors Therapists

Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?

Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, dementia, and physical mobility challenges.

How can geriatric therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?

Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

How is counseling for elderly different from counseling for other age groups?

Many aspects of geriatric counseling are similar to counseling in younger age groups; in general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. However, therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

Can geriatric counseling help people who suffer from dementia?

Counseling can be highly effective for aging adults with dementia. While some therapists specializing in dementia may work with clients solely on topics surrounding memory loss, they can also assist clients with conditions that may co-occur at old age, such as anxiety or depression. Counselors specializing in working with older adults can also offer an objective assessment of a client’s functioning or disease progression to caregivers, and they may be particularly knowledgeable about community resources that may benefit dementia clients and their families. Therapists specializing in dementia may also be trained in specialized forms of therapy for memory-loss|memory loss, such as Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST)—which can help mentally stimulate dementia clients to preserve cognitive functioning.
