I work with adults dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, sexual assault & other traumas, PTSD, relationship stress, nonmonogamy, eating disorders, grief & loss, and mid-life crisis.
Do you feel overwhelmed? Hopeless? Scared? Stuck? Do you feel like your world is spinning out of control? Are you taking care of a family member with a disability or illness? Do you wish the chaos would stop? What would it be like to not feel that way? Sometimes past hurts affect present relationships. Sometimes what you know in your head doesn't match what you feel in your heart. Sometimes multiple stressors can overwhelm you. And sometimes we just need a tune-up for our lives.

Also, I am certified in Inter-analytic Couples and Sex Therapy through the American Association of Couples and Sex Therapists (AACAST).
Transition, loss, and transformation may be universal, but everyone experiences these changes differently. Sometimes you may become overwhelmed -- like everything is too much, or you cannot connect with the person you were before. You may have become stuck in a difficult moment or are acting in ways that make things worse. You deserve to lead a life worth living. Therapy provides an opportunity to explore personal challenges and discover areas of personal growth inherent in these painful times. I welcome adolescents, adults, and couples who are looking for support and validation in the work of healing and self-empowerment.

My primary interest is in raising each person's level of functioning, whether it is from deep trauma to a greater sense of security, or whether it is from an empty relationship to a life of vitality and gratification.
Often, when we are hurting, we don't know why. We think it might be work, or problems at home. It might be money, or worries about health. These vague, nameless feelings are sometimes softened just by feeling understood. Feeling better in the world, sometimes, is achieved by feeling deeper connections to others, feeling responded to rather than ignored, and just simply feeling that who you are is important to another human being. I believe that being seen, recognized, and having explanations that make sense, can improve your life, both on a deeper level, and on a day to day basis.

Hofstetter has decades of experience in the field of psychology, with expertise in relational and in-depth therapy for couples, older adolescents (18+), adults, and groups.
Those who gravitate to me for therapy are often incredibly strong, high-functioning people who have already fought harder in life than anyone should have to, just to make it through. If this sounds like you, know that you already have my respect before you walk through the door. Perhaps you now find yourself in adulthood after a traumatic beginning, ready to break generational cycles of pain or patterns of abuse that you’ve seen, but it’s still a struggle despite your best efforts. It has been my honor to help such individuals and couples achieve emotional peace and relationship harmony that once felt out-of-reach to them.

I have worked with Individuals, Couples, and Groups in Private Practice, Residential Settings, Schools, and Hospital Based Treatment Centers.
Humorist, Mark Twain once wrote, "I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened." Left unchecked, fear-based thinking shapes reality and impedes potential and growth. The unknown and mixed messages surrounding the pandemic has reinforced this mindset and may have left you with perpetual feelings of sadness, uncertainty and doubt. The first step of our journey together is establishing a relationship built upon trust, respect, and safety. Through shared conversation, mindfulness, and self-regulating techniques, we create a bond that honors your unique story and circumstance.

When these feelings cause unmanageable pain I can coach patients to reweave their own life tapestry through self and relationship changes.
I am Eileen Beirich, PsyD, MFT. I encourage patients toward an acquired awareness and management of conflict out of attachment and self-regulation issues. Using dynamic family systems, I begin to review a patient's family of origin story about how life has been lived. I introduce an idea of looking at life's picture like it is a tapestry. A tapestry is constructed of many colored threads laid down next to each other to blend into a picture. Sometimes a person does not have a completed tapestry picture of life.

Life is pretty good, so why do you feel so terrible? You tell yourself that you’re smart enough to figure it out. Muscle through. Stop complaining. But you can’t remember the last time you felt happy. So here you are, hoping therapy can help. You don't want to keep having the same conversation or scrolling through endless internet “self-care” tips. This is bigger than downloading a meditation app. You're ready to stop feeling a sense of dread that follows you as you go through the motions of your life. It's time to stop white-knuckling and actually get some relief.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
