My specialties include trauma; narcissistic/abusive relationships; codependency/boundaries; perfectionism; career changes; grief from illness/death of a parent; Buddhist spiritual counseling; psychedelic integration; queer or interracial relationships; gender; sexuality; cultural identity; racism; intergenerational trauma; and adult children of alcoholics.
Feeling like you have to hide parts of yourself at work, or with your romantic partner or family? These pressures can make us lose touch with who we are and what makes us feel alive. I can support you in transforming patterns that make you feel stuck or overwhelmed. I offer Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Hypnotherapy, and Brainspotting, which are all proven approaches for healing trauma and reducing anxiety and depression.

Hi! Thank you for checking out my profile! I hope you'll feel welcome to reach out to me if it looks like we might be a good fit for one another. I use a liberatory approach in my practice. This means we'll work collaboratively to go beyond symptom relief, exploring practices for individual well-being that also support collective liberation. My work is rooted in many decades of contemplative practice and I have a special interest in Buddhist Psychology that often shows up in the therapy room.

My practice is greatly influenced by 20+ years of meditation/yoga, Buddhist Psychology, Re-evaluation Counseling, Non-Violent Communication, Positive Discipline Parenting.
Having a good relationship with oneself is a process and a practice, and can be cultivated through the therapeutic process. Every relationship is dependent on how we talk to ourselves, and this inner conversation is what therapy can shift. If you have the willingness, huge transformation is possible. I am in this field to help people sort out a way through and beyond unnecessary suffering, and towards deep peace with themselves and others. I have successfully treated high-functioning CEOs as well as people traumatized, addicted, and broke. Being human is challenging, and with the right support, beautiful. Call. I can help!

Stress levels are skyrocketing, leaving many feeling overwhelmed and inadequate. Despite efforts to maintain composure, the inner critic amplifies feelings of insufficiency, making true balance seem out of reach. For too many, chronic stress has become debilitating, transforming exhaustion into a constant state. The pursuit of happiness feels futile as settling for discontent becomes the norm. If you're weary of neglecting your own needs for the sake of others, know this: you deserve better. It’s time to prioritize your well-being. Don’t let another day pass in the shadow of stress. It’s time for a change.

I view therapy as a means of deepening self-knowledge, part of which involves recognizing the messages your body sends you. Well-versed in the language of the body, I facilitate the process of reintegration—learning to listen to what your body has to tell you, translating these messages, and using the information from your somatic experience in your decision-making process. While I enjoy the conversational component of therapy, I structure our sessions to incorporate mindfulness. I believe we can achieve greater mental health and well-being when we slow down enough to notice our patterns, both behavioral and physical.

Accepting new clients! I work with couples, adults, teens, college students and kids. I understand how trauma can stop our daily lives, and force us to time travel to the past to relive our suffering. Trauma can cause blocks in our ability to think, feel, understand ourselves and the world.

Do you experience difficulty staying present in the moment due to overwhelming thoughts, emotions, or urges that impact your relationships? Anxiety about the future or rumination about the past might keep you stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Perhaps it seems as though part of you wants to go down the same old road whereas another part is ready for a new direction. I am passionate about helping individuals tune into their inner worlds and reclaim the power to choose how to show up with authenticity. Hi! I'm Maryanne! I know how taking the first step to seek help can be tough. You might feel overwhelmed, depressed, or anxious, like things will never get better. My goal is to listen and provide a judgment-free space where you can talk about all that is going on with you. It can be much harder to open up to friends or family, so as an impartial advisor, I can offer the outside perspective you need.

Real tools for right now! I can help bring ease in your life and get your world on track. There is help for suffering, PTSD, anxiety, etc. that does not always involve having to trench up the past, but rather, can work right now to bring relief. Are you hurting or stuck? Often our past laid down unconscious survival mechanisms that are at work today that are no longer useful. We can work together to discover these and then insert a new and more useful tool that can allow more ease in your world. I also work in integrative therapy spaces utilizing plant medicine and ketamine. This has had AMAZING effects for my clients.

Buddhist Therapists

Is buddhism beneficial for mental health?

While Buddhism itself is not a treatment for mental health conditions, its practices can greatly enhance mental well-being by introducing coping skills and ideas that promote overall wellness. Key Buddhist practices, such as mindfulness, have been shown to alleviate symptoms of various mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma. Moreover, Buddhism's focus on self-compassion, non-judgment, and acceptance can benefit individuals with particularly negative or self-critical thought patterns.

What are the concepts and principles of buddhism as a therapeutic approach?

Core Buddhist principles are often used in therapy to help clients gain insight into their thoughts and emotions. Concepts such as suffering (dukkha) and impermanence (anicca) are applied to help clients recognize that common forms of suffering, like repetitive negative thought patterns, can be accepted and viewed as impermanent. The Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path are additional core concepts utilized frequently in Buddhist therapy sessions. The Four Noble Truths highlight the existence of suffering as an inherent part of the human experience—an insight frequently used to move clients toward greater acceptance. The Eightfold Path, which includes right understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right concentration, and right mindfulness, offers practical skills to alleviate suffering.

What is the buddhist approach and practice during a therapy session?

Therapists informed by Buddhist principles often integrate mindfulness and meditation practices into therapy sessions to help clients cultivate greater acceptance, compassion, and non-judgment toward themselves and others. Typically, Buddhist therapists guide clients through mindfulness exercises, such as breathing exercises or body scans, and encourage them to practice similar exercises outside of sessions. Additionally, many Buddhist therapists utilize elements of Positive Psychology or Compassion-Focused Therapy, which can help reduce symptoms of self-criticism and shame common among clients with various mental health conditions. In general, Buddhist therapists strive to embody the compassion and non-judgmental approach they promote, often incorporating exercises aimed at developing compassion in session, such as loving-kindness meditation (Metta).

Is mindfulness the same as buddhism in the context of therapy?

While Buddhist therapists frequently integrate mindfulness practices into therapy sessions, the terms mindfulness and Buddhism are not synonymous in the context of therapy. Therapists may use mindfulness techniques, such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), without identifying as a Buddhist therapist. In contrast, those practicing within a Buddhist belief framework typically encourage mindfulness therapies, in addition to foundational Buddhist beliefs, such as the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. These therapists may also guide clients toward a deeper understanding of Buddhist philosophy, unlike those who use Buddhist mindfulness principles without the broader spiritual context.
